A confused story

In comparison with the other Mary Poppins books this one is disjointed. A fine listen but nothing spectacular

Mary Poppins!

Saw the Disney movie at age 5, and now, at 64, I am enjoying the books and seeing how they connect to the new movie and the Broadway show. The first rule about Mary Poppins, though, is…!!

A Short Visit On Mid-Summer's Eve

This is a short story versus the previous typical format of a book with several sections and vignettes. The focus here is also a bit different with much time spent looking at things from the Park Keeper's view. It also touches on some softly philosophical thoughts on self worth and the value of how one sees ones self. Not that much of Mary in this story, although she does play key roles. The story does not suffer for this and, in my mind, actually benefits from it.

The End?

There's a hint of finality to this book, yet you also realize, much like Peter Pan's, that the story of Mary Poppins could never end. I think that is the true magic of any good children's books, to realize that the story can continue on and on as long as hope and joy resides in your heart. Now, the Mary Poppins character is not exactly what I was expecting, nonetheless I became more and more interested in her and all the other characters as the series progressed. This book feels a bit like it was just to satisfy some fans, but it was still very cute and possibly does more to understand Mary Poppins than any other book in the series. Will I read this series again? Sometime down the road probably. Would I recommend the series to others? Yes, but with some warnings, especially if they've already seen any of the Disney movies associated with it.

Brings back old characters

He brings back lots of old characters, and includes new characters who are already already in the story by giving them more death
