Publisher's Summary

How much is one life worth? Cancer is killing Christy Roman's mother, and it will take a miracle to save her. A year ago, Danielle Matheson would have waited until the inevitable end and helped her friend mourn the loss. But now, she faces a difficult choice. She must decide whether to watch Susan Kilpatrick die or ask Jillian and her genetically Gifted siblings to help. But even if they manage to cure the cancer, nothing is certain, and the attempt would put them all at risk of discovery. After all, how can you hide a miracle? As Jillian, Malia, and Michio race to solve the cancer problem, new threats arise which jeopardize everything they're working to accomplish. And now Susan's life is not the only one in danger. The siblings themselves have been targeted. Will their Gifts be enough to save them, or will their choices cost them everything?

    3.5 stars

Overall an entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story. But very confusing especially in the beginning. This is most likely due to the fact that I listened to book 0, missed books 1 & 2 then listened to this installment which is book 3. This has left me at a disadvantage. This is one of those series you need to listen to in order to understand all that is going on. It is a very detailed and complex series and at the same times in many ways is quite simple. This just adds to the confusion of all that has gone on in the series before that I have missed.

Honestly, this story would probably make a better T.V. series than a book series. It is definitely a show I would watch. Unfortunately, people do judge books by their covers. It's what grabs your attention first. That being said I think it would help if the series all had different covers. That's just a personal observation.

Would I continue with the series? Yes, but I would have to go back and read them all in order before continuing with the next installment.

I'm not a fan of how the journal entries were done in this story. They were/are confusing at times. Their gifts are explained/ or you are reminded of them in the story which helped a great deal. It is hard at times to keep track of exactly who everyone is. Especially with all the alternate names they all use. After a while their names all blend together.

This story had much more character and life than the first book I listened to in the series which was The Dark Side of Science, this is due to the narration. It would probably benefit the author if the first book was re recorded with this narrator. She just added so much more character and personality to the story.

Julie Hinton did a great job with the narration. Pleasant voice. Clearly spoken. Smooth even pace. Good character voices. She brought the characters and the story to life through her narration. Very enjoyable

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

    "Lost and confused"

Reading the summary of this book, I was excited to take a fabulous journey with these children and their special powers. I tried and tried to get into the storyline and the characters. I just could not seem to grasp their powers or their stories or really much of what was going on. I see that this is the 3rd book in a series, and so I think maybe I need to read the first 2 books to understand and appreciate what's going on. Without the background of the first 2 books, I cannot seem to follow where the book is trying to take me. I ended up stopping this audiobook and moving on. I do think the plot sounds great and maybe one day I will purchase the first few books and see what's really going on with Malia and the rest of the gang.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
