Publisher's summary

If Howard Morton and Freddie the Frog Killer were trying to hold you down so that Mary Lou Hutton could kiss you, you might run as fast as Jeremy Thatcher did the day he stumbled into Mr. Elives' Magic Shop.

And if you stumbled into that strange shop, you, too, might be asked to make a choice. What would you buy? The Chinese rings? The Skull of Truth? Or the dragon's egg?

And if you did buy the dragon's egg, what would you do when you found out you were supposed to hatch it?

love this book as a kid

Hearing this book read by the cast makes it come to life almost as good as it did when my 11 year old self read it!!!

Never stop loving this story.

The narrator is very generic although comforting and easy to understand his voice lacked character. The only saving grace to his performance is nailing the punctuation. He's monotone but then I imagine the voice in Jeremy's head was also low on self-esteem.
Absolutely worth the listen and a timeless story to boot.

Great Story

When I was in 5th grade my teachers had me in a class learning 2nd grade reading. They told me that I was unable to read this book with the rest of the class. I proved them wrong and read it in one night. I loved this book and willingly wrote a book report to prove the teachers wrong.

This story will forever be my favorite. At 23 years old now I listened to it and still really enjoyed it. I will be reading this to my children one day.

Awesome!!

I love the read aloud. The voice makes me feel like I’m watching a movie. I just wish I could read along with the author. I think that could be something that Audible could add.

Amazing read. I miss books with this format.

It transported me back to my 4th grade classroom. For one brief moment, I felt like a child again and had recaptured my happiness.

Brilliant!

Bruce Coville spins another childhood classic packed with humor, life-lessons & adventure! He gives the tale a further dimension by reading it with his unique style- a must hear!
The only drawback is Jeremy's character is not recorded at the same volume as the rest of the cast

Why is Jeremy so quiet?

The story is great. Kid gets a dragon egg, hatches it, and then has to raise it while trying to have a normal 6th grader life.
The narration is also mostly good... except for the main protagonist. The volume for Jeremy is about half that of the other parts. I had to crank up my volume so the narrator was too loud just so I didn't miss Jeremy's parts.
