Critic Reviews

"Precise, highly accessible language evokes a wide range of emotions and simultaneously tells an initiation story. A memorable inside view of an outsider." (Publishers Weekly)

A beautiful and touching story

This book touched on the hardships of escaping a war torn country in a sensitive and engaging way suitable for younger readers. My ten year old daughter enjoyed this as much as I did.

Hope is Hard Work

Kek has the attitude of he's going to make it through this. He's going to try try again. A good part was when his class took the field trip to the petting zoo. I like the ending the best!
