Publisher's summary

Jim Dale's Grammy Award-winning performance of J.K. Rowling's iconic stories is a listening adventure for the whole family.

'There is a plot, Harry Potter. A plot to make most terrible things happen at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this year.'

Close your eyes and enter the magical world of Harry Potter. In these editions, Jim Dale's characterful narration is so entertaining, fun, and theatrical you can almost hear the crackle of the fire in the Gryffindor common room.

Harry Potter's summer has included the worst birthday ever, doomy warnings from a house-elf called Dobby, and rescue from the Dursleys by his friend Ron Weasley in a magical flying car! Back at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for his second year, Harry hears strange whispers echo through empty corridors - and then the attacks start. Students are found as though turned to stone... Dobby's sinister predictions seem to be coming true.

Having become classics of our time, the Harry Potter stories never fail to bring comfort and escapism. With their message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

Whiney

Great book, obviously. I'm a huge Potterhead. The only problem I have is that the narrator can be very whiney at times. I noticed it in the first book but thought it was just how he voiced Hermione, but he does it with all the characters in this book. It can get really obnoxious but I love the books so I can deal. He's pretty decent with voices as well and tends to stick to them so that's a plus.

Magical in every pronouncement

Jim Dale is marvelous! He brings every character to life with distinct voices. It really does sound like multiple voice actors taking the stage! and oh! His Lockhart is perfect. There is absolutely no better fit I have ever heard or seen for that character, every self-absorbed sentence inflated with charisma, naive narcissism and maniacal haberdashery.

J.K. herself did a marvelous job on the book, regardless of what she says. The mystery is familiar in feeling to the Philosopher's Stone, but with even more magic, twist and magnificent discoveries. The Heir of Slytherin goes down as one of my favorite Harry Potter pieces of all time. Detail, character, plot and just plain magic make this work an experience. A little mobile Hogwarts we can take wherever we go. And in the end, what could be more magical than that?

A Classic!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this audiobook to a friend. Jim Dale did a fantastic performance.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scenes in HP usually include Dumbledore giving Harry sage advice. "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wish I could have! I listened to it in segments throughout my workday.

Loved this. I could listen to it all over again, but instead I think I'll purchase Prisoner of Azkaban.

IT'S VOLDEMORT NOT VOLDEMORE!!!

This dudes pronunciation drives me mad also every character sounds almost the exact same ..variation! I am having the same issues with this book as I did with the previous one read by Jim Dale he pronounces most names wrong and I absolutely despise the way that he makes the characters sound like gits (as Ron would say) Hermione especially is made to sound really slow and the way she says Harry is more like HAREEEE and it's just ridikkulus! I otherwise don't have much issue with this dude he just needs to stick to the correct words and stop making the characters sound like a bunch of dolt's. YIKES! The book in question is amazing and I am happy that I got to once again read the book and hear it as I work!
