Publisher's summary

It's wintertime at Greenglass House. The creaky smuggler's inn is always quiet during this season, and 12-year-old Milo, the innkeepers' adopted son, plans to spend his holidays relaxing. But on the first icy night of vacation, out of nowhere, the guest bell rings. Then rings again. And again. Soon Milo's home is bursting with odd, secretive guests, each one bearing a strange story that is somehow connected to the rambling old house. As objects go missing and tempers flare, Milo and Meddy, the cook's daughter, must decipher clues and untangle the web of deepening mysteries to discover the truth about Greenglass House - and themselves.

Thoroughly delightful experience!

This was such a fun story! While categorized for the 8-10 year old set, I thoroughly enjoyed it at nearly 50. There's an old house that contains treasures as yet unknown, there are ghost stories and old maps, creaks in the night and dangers lurking, yet hot cocoa is served, cake is made, and gifts are exchanged around the Christmas tree, keeping things homey and warm while the mystery is solved.

Charming story

I am an adult, so this review is aimed at adults. This is a children's book, but is also a charming story with engaging, if simplistic, characters. It was an afternoon well spent.

The narrator did a good job separating all the characters.

Good Children’s and young adult mystery

This is a very good story/mystery for anyone. The characters are nicely developed with a few surprises. I really like that there is no foul language or inappropriate scenes.

A marvelous family read.

What made the experience of listening to Greenglass House the most enjoyable?

This is a wonderful story about a boy, his new friend, and a very eclectic collection of adults. There's a mystery to solve and the children have an advantage from the start. They both know more about this magnificently interesting house than the adults.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Greenglass House?

Figuring out the clues! I don't want to give anything away.

What about Chris Henry Coffey’s performance did you like?

Easy to understand and he didn't go overboard with the accents.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

We listened as a family before bedtime over several days. It would have been fun to listen straight through but we would have missed out on our fun speculations.

Any additional comments?

This is a really fun book for both kids and adults.

just ok but need to hear to "get" the later books

Really didn't care for the narrator or main character and actually returned this, then liked the next one and LOVED the prequel so I got this and listened again to understand the whole series better, since there are things later characters fro based on the prequel "Bluecrown", which is AWESOME! An easy and interesting book to listen to, but the lead character and narrator make it less fun

Way too many words!

We listened to this on a family road trip - 2 adults, 2 kids (13 & 11). The story was ok, and the performance was fair, but there was so much unnecessary conversation and description that we all found the book exhausting. Oddly enough, even the narrator seemed to be getting sleepy at points. Clearly we’re not in the majority based on the reviews, just felt we should provide some honest warning to those looking for something a bit tighter or faster-paced.

Charming Story

Very enjoyable young adult/children's literature, including a twist I didn't see coming. The unique cast of characters are fun and inviting, and the setting really sets the story in motion.
