Kids Love This!

This is a cute story made all the more enjoyable by fantastic narration. There are sounds and music included which really add to the story. My kids love listening to this book and it is one of their most requested.

quite surprised

I was pretty happy with this audio book. It had music and great expression. I think my second grade students will enjoy this story. It is great for visualizing. Even my 4.5 year old sat here and listened the whole time. I gave 4 stars overall, because I wish there was an option to turn illustrations on and off while the story is read aloud as I prefer to be able to enjoy both.

Poor storyline saved by a fantastic performance

What made the experience of listening to Giraffes Can't Dance the most enjoyable?

The music is fantastic and my two year old enjoys this audiobook immensely.

What does Billy Dee Williams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice portrays a lot of swagger but it's entertaining to hear him do kid-friendly voices.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The storyline made me uncomfortable. We are very careful about the language we use around our children and my two year old immediately picked up on the line "Giraffes can't dance you silly FOOL" and its meant to be funny in the book, but the dialogue is mean-spirited and not the kind of thing I want my child picking up. I think the thing that bothers me the most is that the animals only like Gerald after he becomes a fabulous dancer. It may seem like i am over-analyzing this story but my child has listened to this story hundred times (it's one of his favorites) and each time I either turn down the volume or remind him those words are unkind. We own so many other books and this is the only one that has a real mean undertone. I think it was a missed opportunity to show kids a better way to deal with bullies.
