Publisher's summary

The incredible true story of a friendship so strong that it crosses the globe! You will love the inspiring tale of Gobi, a lost dog who kept pace with an ultramarathon runner, Dion Leonard, across a vast desert. Follow their unlikely friendship through the challenges of a race and Dion's struggle to bring Gobi home for good.

Finding Gobi: The True Story of One Little Dog's Big Journey is the incredible true story of Dion Leonard, an athlete who was befriended by a stray dog while running an ultramarathon through the Gobi Desert. Named for the desert in which he found her, Gobi became Dion's closest companion for 77 miles of the 155-mile race across China. The scrappy little pup ran mile after mile alongside Dion, through treacherous conditions and across raging rivers. He let her sleep in his tent and share his food, and eventually his focus shifted from winning to the newfound friendship he and Gobi shared.

They crossed the finish line together - not first, but together - and Dion decided to bring Gobi home to Scotland. Just before they were about to leave, however, Gobi disappeared, setting off a worldwide search for the stray. In a town of more than three million people, the search seemed hopeless, but this tale of friendship will surprise and delight you as you find out what happens!

Join the almost too good to be true story of hope, friendship, and beating incredible odds in Finding Gobi: The True Story of One Little Dog's Big Journey by Dion Leonard.

What an awesome and heartwarming story!

This is such a sweet story. My son and I listened to it in our commute to and from school. How amazing it is to have the connection and determination to follow the heart. So glad you have shared this kind of intentionality and commitment. We need more people like Dion who have this type of integrity - to do the right thing with upstanding character throughout trials! Thank you for being awesome!

Heartwarming story

A wonderful story of how a plucky little stray dog won the heart of an ultra marathon runner and their journey to go from China to Scotland.

Simply delightful!

Would you consider the audio edition of Finding Gobi: Young Reader's Edition to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version so I can't say but I found the audio version just delightful! The narration and story just fit together so well.

What other book might you compare Finding Gobi: Young Reader's Edition to and why?

I don't know of any similar books I've read.

Which scene was your favorite?

The first part when Dion meets Gobi and they become friends.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The part when he had to find Gobi. I knew it was going to be OK but it was a bit tense to listen to.

Any additional comments?

I think this would be great for parents and children to listen to together.

Finding Gobi

This is a heartwarming story about a man & a small dog who starts following him as he is running a race in China. After a few days of the dog running along with him, he forms a bond with the little dog & names her Gobi after the Gobi desert they are running through. He decides he wants to keep her & take her back to Scotland with him but doesn’t realize the difficulties involved when dealing with the Chinese regulations & those required in bringing an animal into Great Britain from another country.

I have a class of middle school reluctant readers in a reluctant math class. We have an all school 10 minute silent reading everyday at the beginning of class. I thought I would let them listen to a book, instead of reading one (and me not haranguing them about not reading). They loved it! Of course, I was sure to turn it off right at 10 minutes and they would make an audible sigh. Many of them turned it into their 'reading log' for English (I purchased the book also for them).
