Flo Gibson's spirited delivery is ideal for the rich dialogue and story. The first-person viewpoint is Black Beauty's. Gibson totally inhabits him - from his happy childhood to the harsh times when he's mistreated by cruel or oblivious owners. Particularly moving are his friendship and conversations with Ginger, another horse. Together Sewell and Gibson ensure that the ending is as believable and realistic as all of Black Beauty's life.

He is impatient and wishes to get to the town more quickly to purchase the forest before other contenders can get there. They find themselves in the middle of a blizzard, but the master in his avarice wishes to press on. They eventually get lost off the road and they try to camp. The master's peasant soon finds himself suffering from hypothermia.

Children were born there, both heirs and bastards. It had ghosts and legends and a history that grew stranger with every generation.
