Publisher's Summary

It's the start of fifth grade for seven kids at Snow Hill School. There's Jessica, the new girl, smart and perceptive, who's having a hard time fitting in; Alexia, a bully, your friend one second, your enemy the next; Peter, class prankster and troublemaker; Luke, the brain; Danielle, who never stands up for herself; shy Anna, whose home situation makes her an outcast; and Jeffrey, who hates school. Only Mr. Terupt, their new and energetic teacher, seems to know how to deal with them all. He makes the classroom a fun place, even if he doesn't let them get away with much...until the snowy winter day when an accident changes everything - and everyone.

Top notch YA book

My son asked me to get him a copy of this book two or three months ago. He devoured it. Then he asked me for the next two in the series. He devoured those in record time as well.

I overheard parts of these books and was impressed. Later, my son insisted that I listen as well. So when Because of Mr. Terupt went on sale, I bought a copy.

I’ve now read the book and I think it was one of the most enjoyable YA books I can remember reading. The themes are serious, but the story is very well crafted and the overall effect is very good. Great narration as well.

I highly recommend this book.

Peoples voices

The teacher mr.terupts voice was like a lady's voice talking deeper it's weird. All the girls voices sound the same and the boys voices sound the and also.

What were they thinking?

A grown adult woman reads for all 4 of the 5th grade girls characters, using the same voice for 3 of them.
A grown adult man reads all 3 of the 5th grade boys, using the same voice for 2 of these parts.
I was so disappointed in this approach. It is still a good story, but on this audiobook, it was read without emotion. I really wish that the characters were read by students around the age of 10-12 instead of adults.
Also, it was difficult to tell which character (there are 7 students telling this story, each from their own perspective) was speaking since the 2 readers did nothing to differentiate their voices for separate characters.
I teach 5th grade, and I assign the 7 parts to my best and most emotional readers and the students really respond to this story, even go so far as to "boo" the Lexie character in the first half the story, while cheering Anna and Jessica.
I just feel like no thought or effort went into this audio production.

Amazing

This book really touched my heart and I'm so glad that I listened to it, in fact, I saw it in a bookstore and had to buy it. The Narrators in my opinion did a great job sounding different for each character. I didn't even know it was only two readers! I highly recommend this book to people that have read Rain Reign, Wonder, Fish in a Tree, and more! Good job Rob Buyea.

This book is so touching and thoughtful! I love it!

I loved the very different personalities of the characters and how the readers differed their voices so completely. I would recommend this book to all my friends, and it is also a nice book to listen to before bed because the beginning starts off slow. I truly recommend this book to anyone, and I would read this a million times.
