Editorial reviews

Naxos Audiobooks has consistently found ways to enrich audiobooks with music. This audiobook takes this skill to a new height. Presenting the story line of five classical ballets - Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia, The Nutcracker and Giselle - former ballerina and narrator Jenny Agutter personally delivers a tour of the stories. She could be sitting in the audience beside you. The lively text is rich with detail and imagery to describe the scenes. The music punctuates and enlivens; the sound is perfect - clear, beautifully edited and mixed. A wonderful gift for families to enjoy.

Publisher's summary

The magic of ballet is evoked in these enchanting stories presented with many musical excerpts from the works themselves. Jenny Agutter, who before turning to acting was a dancer, presents the stories of two French ballets - Giselle and Coppelia - and the three great ballets by Tchaikovsky, in engaging style.

These are tales of princes and princesses, of good fairies and bad witches, and, in Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, the brave soldier and Clara - but does it happen, or is it a dream?

And there is the music - the lovely melody from Swan Lake, The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the waltzes and richly atmospheric passages painting, in sound, castles, forests, mists and lakes.

A perfect introduction to the ballet....

Fantastic!

Wonderful oration. The addition of the music from the ballets greatly enhanced the stories and it was a pleasure to listen to this book. For anyone who loves ballet, this is a must.
