Library of Congress Children's Books of the Year

Three orphan girls. A pair of pink slippers. A lifetime in the spotlight. Hear the classic that has captivated generations!

Pauline, Petrova, and Posy love their quiet life together. They are orphans who have been raised as sisters, and when their new family needs money, the girls want to help. They decide to join the Children's Academy of Dancing and Stage Training to earn their keep.

Each girl works hard following her dream. Pauline is destined for the movies. Posy is a born dancer. And Petrova? She finds she'd rather be a pilot than perform a pirouette.

This beautiful children's classic is perfect for girls who love to dream about ballet, friendship, and finding their own special talents. Adult listeners may remember them as the "Shoes" books from You've Got Mail!

Please note: This audiobook has some light background noise issues. This audio quality issue is unavoidable since this is sourced from historic recordings.

A childhood favorite

I had been a little concerned that perhaps the audio version would not live up to the book. I need not worried, the narrator and the producer did full justice to Noel Streatfield's words. This audiobook will become a permanent part of my library.

Magical and Memorable

I love this book, I have since I was little. After many years I decided to buy it for old times sake and I am so glad that I did! The performance is stunning and the story is as magical as ever. Oh to be a Fossil!

Ballet Shoes is a joy!

Such a wonderful story! I’ve read it again and again, since I was little, each time enjoying the narrative and characters even more! Elizabeth Sastre is a terrific narrator too, all the voices she does are great. For ballet lovers and performers this is such a treat, but I hope others will enjoy its humor too!

Absolutely delightful in every way

As a family with 4 girls, we all loved this book. The story was funny and intriguing (we still say, "We vow!) and the performance was outstanding, especially in the way the reader played every part distinctly and believably. The 4 stars for the story is because it took a bit getting into--but it was well worth it.

B

I loved this book and read it several times as a child. It's just one of those "nice" books. Like Little Women or Anne of Green Gables, it's not exciting, and maybe it's not a "grown up" classic, but the characters and journey of the story are worth reading. I've read Ballet Shoes once or twice as an adult and it definitely holds up. I ended up very involved in theatre through high school and college, so perhaps this book is why, and reading Ballet Shoes over again now makes ...more I loved this book and read it several times as a child. Great story and reader

This was a good one to listen to while shuttling between activities. My 12 year old daughter chose this book and I completely enjoyed it.
