Publisher's summary

This is book three in the Anne of Green Gables series.

Anne is growing up and leaving the Island to spend four years at Redmond College. She meets a wonderful new friend in Philippa Gordon, offspring of an old and exclusive "bluenose" family. Phil's family ties, combined with her beauty and charm, open the gates of all the social cliques and clubs at Redmond. And where Phil went, Anne went. Thus, Anne found her social pathway at Redmond made very easy while other freshettes were doomed to remain on the fringe of things.

An old favorite decently performed

I've loved all of the "Anne" books since I was a teen 40 years ago. This was a decent narration. I admit I was a bit spoiled for the narrations of books 2 & 3 because my first Anne audible ( book 1, Green Gables)was read by Rachel McAdams and nobody else has QUITE measured up. Laurie Klein does a good job. Not quite enough variation between the different characters, which gets her a 4 instead of a 5, but it was still an enjoyable listen.

On to "Windy Poplars"! I admit to being addicted now!

A Long Time Coming

Good storyline and continuation but slow with the plot. I believe Anne could have had a more romantic heart and desire for her true love.

Where's Anne?

I love Anne, and LM Montgomery has a way with words, but I don't like that this book is more focused on boys and love making. where's Anne?! These books are my favorite, but Anne changes from an awesome character, to someone who's only focused on boys. I wish that the narrator did not have as much background noise, because at some points you can hear the pages turning. I love LM Montgomery though, and her characters are timeless!!!!

Wonderful story

Very well read. I love the character voices. Wonderful acting!
You do sometimes hear pages turn as others have mentioned, but I don't mind. Even my younger children come close to listen to the wonderful storytelling and characters develop in this novel.

A great narrator

The only true way to enjoy a book is to have a good narrator. In this book, the narrator makes the story feel alive, and more easy to relate to. This is my preference narrator over the other computer-like narrators.

LUV This Book & the Narrator❣️

L.M. Montgomery is one of my favorites, and so is Laurie Klein. As Anne would say, this book is delightful and so romantic!

Hooked on this series

I am hooked on this series (despite - or maybe because of - the fact it is very old fashioned), even though it can get a little monotonous at times. The first book was the best, but I do genuinely want to continuing following Anne's life as she gets older.
The reader for this particular volume, Laurie Klein, was a great improvement over the reader of the previous volume; however, I was actually quite unhappy with parts of the book itself. I'm a huge cat lover, and the author's obvious dislike of cats transferred to some of her prominent characters. I was very dismayed when one of them blithely stated that she was used to getting rid of unwanted kittens by putting a box over them and chloroforming them to death. Several of the women, including our heroine (whom you would think loves all creatures great and small), express indifference or actual dislike of cats, when most of my friends adore them and have them as pets. The characters redeem themselves somewhat in the book, but I was nevertheless disappointed with them at times. Anne also falls in love in this volume, and I found it hard to understand her goofy and unrealistic (I thought) behavior at times. Despite all of this, we have another happy ending and I will continue to follow Anne's adventures. On to the next volume!

A faithful take on a childhood classic

Old books can often simply feel dated. While this one isn't entirely exempt, it is also singularly charming and life affirming in a way that one rarely encounters anymore. Earnest and heart-warming without becoming saccharine.
