Despite leaving the courtroom with her reputation intact, Kat's inner life was in turmoil, and it was only due to the loyal support and steadfast encouragement of her ever-increasing fan-base that she managed to complete the sixth volume so soon. Following on from the fifth book, in which she lost her identity but somehow found herself a husband, Karin now finds herself in the precarious position of having to move in with her partner's family - a move known to strain even the tightest of marital bonds.

Story
In this much-publicised third volume, Kat recounts her early-mid teen years; no longer a small child, but a girl on the cusp of adolescence. Still traumatized by her early experiences, but not entirely without that sense of vague hope that is the inalienable property of youth. Now at Duncroft Approved School for “emotionally disturbed girls”, her life had come to resemble that of a prisoner; a good day was a bad one and a bad day was horrific.

Story
From the outside, there was no reason to suspect the family life of young schoolchild Keri was anything but unremarkable. Two loving parents, a backdrop of 1960s Britain; life had provided for her, at least with the riches of modesty. Keri herself however, would often confound teachers with her erratic behaviour, which was at best sullen and withdrawn; at worst violently disruptive. When challenged, she would only exacerbate her growing reputation as a fantasist; weaving terrible tales about the "abuse" she was suffering at the hands of her very creators.

Story
Our prisons and mental hospitals are filled with tragic stories like Tuesday Storm's. Her early childhood was riddled with torturous "games" and violent physical attacks. She was isolated from the rest of her family, locked in an attic with nothing but a bare bed and a bucket for a toilet, and fed just enough to be kept alive. The experts say it's next to impossible to find the soul's light in a dark past like Tuesday's.

My Prison without Bars is a courageous and harrowing journey through the catacombs of hell, from the mind and voice of a little girl, living with her own monster underneath her bed. Written in first person, this novel is not a memoir, but more a psychological thriller based on true events; chronicling one woman's attempt to claw her way out of the darkness of Child Sexual Abuse, while struggling to find normal, in a not-so-normal world. It is poignant, dark and graphic; not for the faint of heart.

Story
Stephen Smith is the boy who did not exist. Born out of wedlock in the early 1960s, Steve's parents - both devout Catholics - had felt so 'shamed' by their son's illegitimate birth that they hid him away from the world by locking him in the cellar...for 13 years. Apart from a few admissions to hospital as a result of his 'imprisonment', Steve remained in the coal cellar of the family home where he was deprived of daylight, his childhood, school and human contact until he'd reached his teenage years.

Story
My mother was bipolar, mentally ill, a sociopath that not only got pregnant by my 15-year-old father but went on to abuse me in every way imaginable. This is my story. People have a hard time believing that women, especially mothers who are supposed to protect their children, can be molesters and pedophiles, but my mother was one. I am not only telling my story for my own recovery, exposing the sins of the mothers in our family, but to help others to see that if this happened to them, they are not alone, and they can recover and have healthy, reasonably happy lives.

Publisher's Summary
Child Abuse True Stories presents: Volume four of Kat Ward's sensational autobiography!
The year was 1975, and at age 16, young Keri was desperate to strike out on her own.
However, as listeners of the first three volumes of this series will know, her childhood was hardly the loving, supportive, preparatory period it should have been.
Instead of family dinners and piano recitals, there were shattered dishes and abusive parents. Instead of trips to the museum, there were trips to TV studios - to be molested by celebrities. In short, her childhood was nothing short of a nightmare.
Should it really be any surprise then, after such a traumatic baptism into life, that her first foray into the adult world was hardly an unmitigated success?
From living in squalor to racking up debts, her new-found independence forced her face-to-face with many of life's grim realities. And despite waiting all her life for her freedom, she soon realised that a world without the institutional bars she was so accustomed to was just too much of a jungle. And every jungle has its predators...
But what was a girl to do? Regress back to an abusive enslavement? Or continue moving forward in a world that seemed so backward? She needed a friend - and fast.
Naturally, her understandable distrust of others didn't make things easy. Not to mention her warped idea of love. In the end though, her determination proved the deciding factor. As far as she was concerned, she'd performed her final "favour", and cried the last of her tears.
But just when she thought she'd finally left her demons behind, she found herself at the mercy of unsavoury characters yet again - and this time, without anyone to turn to...

Dear Kat,
Kat,
I truly want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your story with us!! You are an inspiration and I can honestly say I have become quite attached to your younger self so now that I’m at the end, I am sad and I miss you already!! How you have gone through life and maintained such success despite most everyone being against you is beyond me!!! I cannot tell you how many times I just wanted to reach through time and give these abusive people a punch in the throat but especially your mother!!!! I am a therapist and I can say that you have truly opened my eyes to how abuse affects young children and I wish you would have had more cheerleaders in your corner growing up because you were doing so well but they hardly ever gave you the credit you deserve!!! I am grateful for the ones that were TRULY in your corner and there for you!!! I am so very sorry for the pain you endured but so VERY PROUD that you persevered and made a name for yourself!!! I listen to my books to and from work every day and I have gone to work with you for several months so I feel like I know you and I miss you already!!! Thank you for opening our eyes!!!!

Keri 4
The story of Keri Ward is very hard to hear. The abuse suffered by the hands of her mother should never have happened. I had to stop reading at times as my heart rate went through the roof. I hope and pray this isn’t a true story and if it is; I say I’m sorry on behalf of all the people who failed you. You are worth it and the writing of your book should be read by all. We need to understand that to protect a child or young person is a mission to which we all need to be a part of. Thank you for sharing and I can honestly say this book series has changed me. I give it 5 stars for all area...

I loathe Millie!
I am in LOVE with the narrator and of course Keri’s story. The last book and this one are very ... anticlimactic, nothing like the first 2. The things she struggles with are things I’ve struggled with throughout life. I loathe her mother, Millie. I’m so heartbroken over nana and the way she allows this behavior from Millie, and takes her side. After all these years I had hoped nana would finally take Keri’s side, as she really needs someone in her corner. As always the narrator is so amazing, I wished she had more books that she read. I’m not really interested in anymore of “Keri” books but I will purchase the next because I cannot say goodbye to Bridget Thomas!

Great and very sad book
This book was very believable, I have over spent the amount of money required to read this book. I can’t seem to put it down. Many times I have found myself in tears, when listening to that horrible mother. I have never known anything like this. I could say so much more but, I will leave it at that that Facebook is totally believable.

I would recommend all social workers read this book.
Keri, I am so sorry no one helped you, especially in your early years, to escape. Your family and the authorities should be held to account and you will find most, if not all, negative comments from people in authority.
Your family should face criminal charges. It is a shame most perpetrators of violence on children escape any real consequences.
I hope you have found peace in your future and freedom from your mother.

A ending that doesn’t seem like an ending…
This book was better than Keri 3. The only thing that frustrated me was the ending, which didn’t seem at all like an ending.
I would had liked to hear how she left the children’s system and also how things ended between her and her mother.
Did her mother ever improve? Did Keri ever finally stick up for herself and put her mother in her place? Did she end up ever marrying her boyfriend or find someone new? Did she have children? How did her past trauma affected her adult life?
The book left so many unanswered questions that I found it frustrating.
I felt like I had brought and read all 4 books only not to know how the story ever really ended?
This is the only reason I felt compelled to rate it 4 stars instead of 5.
Maybe a Keri 5 will appear sometime in the future to answer my unanswered questions?

Therapy
Really enjoyed the story and could relate to aspects of it. My own childhood was difficult and in a weird way this story gave me a sense of not being alone.... almost therapeutical.

Waiting for the next one
This book is harrowing. My heart breaks for Keri and the abuse she suffered at the hands of her “mother”

I love the Keri books
These books have to be one of the saddest childhoods I have come across, her mother is absolutely disgusting the way she treats her own daughter and it saddens me like no other.
However listening to these types of books has made me realise that I want to and will be such a great counselor and psychologist, as the last thing I will let happen to my kids or others is this.
I really cannot wait to listen to the rest of your stories and I binge listen to your books in a matter of 3 days, I hope you publish the next one of your books with a somewhat happy ending. I miss the gypsies and I wonder often what happened to these beautiful creatures that showed such love and adoration to you. I will be on the alert for more of your great books.
