Publisher's summary

Tucked next to a pristine lake, the part-Medieval Europe, part-Renaissance Faire hamlet of Whispering Pines, Wisconsin, is a utopia...except for the recent murders.

One month after arriving in the Northwoods, former detective Jayne O'Shea has settled comfortably into small-town life and is making good progress with her task of getting her grandparents' house ready for sale. Then, the shocking death of one of the carnies rocks the community, and the villagers look to Jayne for help, placing her in an impossible middle ground of not wanting to get involved and needing to ensure justice is served.

When a second carney turns up dead and the newly hired sheriff - more concerned with ticketing tourists than catching the killer - dismisses the death as an accident, Jayne has no choice but to step in. Can she uncover the truth before the murderer strikes again?

Great Mystery

This was the first book I have listened to by Shawn McGuire and it was captivating! She brought the town and characters to life with her descriptions of it all! Sandra Murphy did a great job with the narration. I am going to have to get the first in the series! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Same review at Book 1

I am binge listening to this series and going to back to review, which is never a good idea. I love this series. There is a solid mystery, usually a murder, in every book along with some overarching mysteries/storylines.

The village was established in the 70's by one family who owns the whole 2000 acres on which the village sits. When the grandmother dies, Jayne travels to whispering pines to clean out the house, and life happens. There is a lot of talk about Wicca and the supernatural, but it is treated more like a religion than supernatural - though there is some supernatural to it too.

Some of the outcomes are predictable, but it doesn't ruin the enjoyment of the series.

A Town Of Quirky People & Murder

Jayne is busying solving the murders of the carnies in town, one, now there is another. The sheriff is unconcerned, so she steps up. A town of quirky people, even though the setting seems peaceful.Good series, and enjoying audio of them Given ARC audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

What a Fun Listen!

I loved listening to this next book in the Whispering Pines series. I enjoyed following Jayne as she has to solve not just one murder but two! As if getting a house ready for sale, trying to prove to her parents a B&B would be more profitable and trying to keep Tripp at arm's length isn't enough. This is another well written story and the characters continue their development. Whispering Pines is a great series that I feel those who enjoy cozy mysteries will truly get immersed and not want to leave. The narration was wonderful. I really liked that the same narrator, Sandra Murphy, has done both books. She really helps to bring the story to life and pull the listener in so they feel as though they are walking right beside all the action. I can't wait until the next book!

Captivating

I felt like I had stepped out of my house and into the magical world of Whispering Pines. The carnival is in town and it's full of fun, mystery, and murder. Shawn McGuire has a gift for creating scenes so realistic the characters spring to life. Everyone who has been drawn to Whispering Pines or who has roots in the village seems to have a story to tell or a secret to keep. Read the book or listen to the Audible version and you'll want to return to the village again and again for Mcguire has written other mysteries which take place in Whispering Pines.

Don't keep this secret to yourself

I enjoyed this book. Then again I started with book 6 and loved it so had to go back to the start of the series, so I knew it was my type of story- quirky, fun characters and a good mystery and this book doesn't disappoint in anyway. You don't need to listen to the books in order but it doesn't mean I know some of out comes of the sub plots, so I think I would probably recommend listening to them in order. As I said the characters are fun but it is the interaction between them that I like, the way on minute Jayne is questioning a suspect and then is accepting magical gifts the next this makes the story interesting because the characters are all so colourful and don't follow the norm. Off to start the next book.
Jayne is still trying to talk her parent's into letting her turn her grandmothers house into a bed and breakfast and while she waits for the answer she is keeping busy buy getting it ready to sell, just in case. On a rare night out she and Trip (her hopeful business partner) visit the carnival and watch some death defying acts and stunts In the big top. So Jayne is surprised to return in the morning for a forgotten jumper to find one of the carnies tangled up in her own silks. After having seen her show the previous night she is reluctant to believe the tragic death was an accident. With no body in change until the village appoints a new sheriff Jayne lets her cop instincts take over and she starts asking questions and looking for clues. She is less than impressed when the town council appoints someone. Especially when the green rookie jumps to conclusions and seems more happy with locking up tourist than looking into the death. Then another carnie is killed and Jayne is left wondering how the sheriff can rule it another accident. This time she has to take action and get to the bottom of these murders befire anyone else is killed.
I like the narrator and wouldn't change anything about the way she reads these stories.

Captivating Listen!

What wonderful characters and imagery are in this book! Shawn McGuire has spun another fantastic tale. The bond between Jayne (main character) and Meeks (her dog) was so realistic! I was pulled into this book from the very beginning. I loved the unexpected twists and this interesting village. I loved the bed and breakfast too and want to learn more. Sandra Murphy did a great performance with this book. I had requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I'm looking forward to listening to more books by this author and narrator.
