Publisher's summary

Dr. Olivia Simon is on duty in the emergency room of North Carolina's Outer Banks Hospital when a gunshot victim is brought in. Midway through the desperate effort to save the young woman's life, Olivia realizes who she is - Annie O'Neill, the woman Olivia's husband, Paul, is in love with.

When Annie dies on the operating table, she leaves behind three other victims: Alec O'Neill, who thought he had the perfect marriage; Paul, whose fixation on Annie is unshakable; and Olivia, who is desperate to understand the woman who destroyed her marriage. Now they are left with unanswered questions about who Annie really was - and about the secrets she kept hidden so well.

Interesting twists

I liked that the "perfect" character who had her own battles was shown to be a real imperfect person. My heart ached for Olivia. It also ached for Alex. I'm surprised how tangled the characters became. I especially liked old Mary.

Easy Listen

The story pulled me in pretty quickly and kept me interested. The journey of the story is a little predictable but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. I don't usually do sequel books but I will listen to the stories that follow in this one. I like the writer.

WOW!!!

An amazing book 1 of the Kiss Trilogy. I had a really difficult time putting it down. Excellent character development, with multiple great characters. Some twists and turns. The narration was amazing. Arielle DeLisle is defintely a class act. She does amazing accents, that leaves no doubt as to who is speaking. Does Great with Men, women, cihildren, etc. Can't wait to read the next book.

Thoroughly enthralling

This book was an absolute treat. From the character development to the jaw dropping twist at the end...amazing. I can surely see a movie being made from this storyline. I was however left feeling empty where Olivia and Alec were concerned. I would love to see a second book , “After the Storm” that drops us back in the same time. I was left wanting more & I love a book that does that! Kudos to the Narration of Arielle DeLisle she brought this significant book to life.

Frustrating!!

Before I get started let me just say that this was a good story, it just wasn’t laid out right (in my opinion, of course). So much of the first 1/3 of this book was me thinking that it was so vague, none of it made any sense.. I found myself rolling my eyes and thinking “what the hell ever”. It does get better and I wanted to listen to the rest of it as much as I could but the narrator’s style of reading had me cringing. The only way I can think to describe it is to think of a teacher telling a 6th grade class a story...gradually going up in tone 1st part of a sentence and down in tone the next half.. up and down, up and down. The only time it wasn’t like that was when she is reading what someone is saying. It’s sad too because I really do like her voice, just not her reading style. I doubt I will continue with the trilogy unless I read it myself.

Keeps you entertained

loved the story, but wish main character was a stronger woman. she frustrated me. Last chapter was a little disconnected and the ending felt a little disappointing. Overall I enjoyed the story though.

I enjoyed the book, but the male voices ruined it

I enjoyed the book, but the male voices ruined it. The men sound like hicks!!! Same as in The Courage Tree and The bay at Midnight. Get a man to do it!!!
