Publisher's summary

There is world of adventure just a dream away.

Collecting Books I through V of the Tales of Dreamside Series

There is more to your home than what you've seen. There is a place you have never stepped foot in. Your home has an outside, an inside, and a side you didn't know existed: Dreamside. If you have a very healthy dose of curiosity and courage, you might be able to find it. In fact, on an afternoon not too many days ago, a young boy named Keaghan discovered the way in.

This is the story of Keaghan and his adventures in Dreamside, a strange world of twisting hallways, a labyrinth just beyond the walls (and through and between) of every home. Keaghan must journey to the Heart of Dream, over the Sea of Teeth, through the dark and deadly Blether House, into the House of No, through Overside and Underside, and more wonderful and frightening places in a race to to stop the invading Cra-gin and their horde of ravaging Tomsi. Can Keaghan save his home, his Dreamside, and all of reality? Can Keaghan unlock the mystery that is the Boy at the End and prevent the destruction of the Tree of Dream? And can Keaghan do all this when every one of his friends have fallen in the Dream War and left him alone?

in the top 10 of children’s authors I have listen

Keaghan in the Tales of Dreamside: Dreamside Omnibus, Books 1-5 by J. Daniel Batt. This was right up there in the top 10 of children’s authors I have listened to over the years in audio format. The 7 hrs. and 46 min book had a lot in the time it took from word one to the last word spoken by the narrator. The narrator, Mike Pryc, is the first experience for me listening to him. I love his voice and can’t wait to hear more of his work. So let me get started with this story or should I say stories. This book contains 5 stories all conceding with the previous story.

I felt that this book is meant for children in the age group of 8-14. Younger children may enjoy it but may find some of the stories dialog a bit much for them. So may not hold their attention as long. Now for older children 15+ depending on the child would either enjoy it or find it too young for them. Now for myself being in an older bracket well I just found this downright fun to listen to!

I feel that this story lends itself to that fantasy of a dream world that children would only hope to be part of. Its characters and the character names that J. Daniel Batt created for each of them. Well, let just say they were just downright pure fun! From the little wispy character, Spingalli to the fierce characters of the Tomsi and the Cra-gin. Keaghan is a young boy that finds himself caught up in the Dreamside of his home. He also finds out there are other sides as well to his home. As his adventures take him from one story to the next he learns more about himself as he goes along. Guess what so will the reader. I could not help but, to kind of think of these stories sort of like parables. This book cannot but teach each of us to take away a small lesson. It was such an enjoyable listen.

The author leaves you with that there will be more to follow from the different statements the characters make throughout the book. Which makes me happy and I can’t wait to listen to the next series of stories. This is a book that I want my niece and nephew to listen to. Nothing is better than the young person’s perspective that this book was written for.

The narrator, Mike Pryc, was an excellent actor lending his voice to each and every character in this book. Yes, actor to me a narrator is a person that reads a book from start to finish. A narrator for a documentary that just has that same steady voice throughout. Not Mike! His voice had lent itself to so many characters I lost count. Each unique that if this book does not hold a child’s attention well I don’t know what will! My favorite character voices was of Spingalli and Kitley. Though I did like the others as well.

As an adult I find the cover interesting but, too much going on it. As a child I know they would pass the book right up. A simpler cover of Keaghan and one of the wispy characters hiding in his hair as they do throughout the book. That would catch their attention. They would want to know who these little people are.

Two words: Absolutely Amazing!

Have you listened to any of Mike Pyrc’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not only is this book amazing, the narrator (Mike Pyrc) does a fantastic job voicing every character in the book. I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks and this is the only book that made me feel like I was truly a part of the storyline. Two thumbs up!

This is a wonderful listen! The writing is thoughtful and very relevant to children's experiences in pop culture. The characters are well developed, and excellently voiced by the narrator.
