Publisher's summary

People say karma's a... well, you know. Personally, I don't think I'm that bad. It's not like I wanted this job. I wasn't even in my right mind when I accepted the position.

Now, I'm surrounded by crazy coworkers like Lady Luck, who's a bit of a tramp, and Murphy's Law, who's a bumbling oaf. But the worst is Fate. He's got a problem with transfers like myself and I have to see him constantly. It's unavoidable, since we're hunting the same man, my murderer.

Fire this narrator!

When I read the summary, I was sure the book was going to be good. However, when I hit the play button all I could concentrate on was the robotic voice droning on. There was no passion, no fire, nothing. Stephen Hawking would have been better.

Interesting story concept, but...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It is 50/50 on if this is worth the listen/read. I was wondering if this was written for a specific gender. I found the reading horrible with her "acting" out characters as cheesy. I also found the main character as too whiny and constantly restating the fact that she found the character Fate as unappealing and rude and yet always attracted. When the two characters finally did consummate their relationship I found it disgusting to listen to and hit the fast-forward button. Oh and there was so much build-up tp the main goal of the main character that when it finally came I found myself saying out loud, "Really? That's it? I went through 29 chapters of this dog for this?!" Yes, uneventful, short and you enter into the finish without much warning (sort of like that poorly written sex scene).

Would you recommend Karma to your friends? Why or why not?

Maybe. But again the whining of the character throughout the entire book is a big turn-ff.

Would you be willing to try another one of Angel Clark’s performances?

I would prefer not to if I can avoid it.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes I actually would as I do like the concept of the story. I think written for the screen to make the main character less whiny would really do the story justice and could be interesting to watch.

Intolerable narration

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone. Who. Likes. Staccato. Narration.

What didn’t you like about Angel Clark’s performance?

This narrator is, by far, the worst I have ever heard. So unnatural and jilted you can barely pay attention to the story.

Interesting

Different and unusual but makes you wonder. Would have been better if the narrator wasn't so bad. Talked like Captain Kirk and her guy voices sounded like 13 year old boys.

Narrator Can Kill A Book.

Story was okay. Good idea on the characters and playing of their meanings BUT the narrator made ever MALE in the book sound like a nasal whiner. Fate should of been a masculine character, a man's man, buff, and sexy But the narrator made him a sissy boy.

Different

A bit different than other of it's ilk I've read. Interesting universe. Good few hours. I'll have to continue with the series since there are a lot of unanswered questions.

Totally Unique

You wake up and discover you are now "Karma" and you must work with the insufferable person called faith. What could be the problem?

Karma can be described as something that you get based on what you put out. On the other hand Fate, which is also sometimes called as destiny is that will happen inevitably.

So if you make a decision because you are karma why can fate over ride you? Why should you care because as soon as your probation period is over you will get the hell out of here. Why does it bother you that fate is always leaning on something.

What is wrong that I had a life before my after life? Who killed me and why?

Read this one.

Good story, bad reader.

The overall story is good, a bit too much "I have information, but I'm not going to tell you", but overall it's enjoyable.

The reader on the other hand make me want to stop listening after the second male character was introduced. She doesn't have the range to do justice to men's voices and makes them all sound pompous or whinny (or both).

I would rather read the subsequent books in the hope that I will enjoy them more than listening to this reader.

Enjoyable story, but has background noise

Any additional comments?

I've both read and listened to the story and both are pretty enjoyable, however, there is a distinct background noise which is noticeable throughout the story.
This was somewhat distracting and while it didn't detract from the story, it does push me to suggest the story get re-narrated in a "quiet room" withOUT the background noise.

Amusing and Fun

I've read this book before and wanted to give the audible version a go. i enjoyed it the second time round just as much as the first. Karma is sarcastic, witty, and combative throughout. she is thrown into a reality (upon death) that she was totally unaware of and goes on a journey of acceptance with the aim of being reincarnated. Some detective work and romantic tension thrown in makes a great story.
The narrator, Angel Clark, I am familiar with, and although not my favourite, if you persevere and just go with it, you end up filtering out any annoyance and just enjoying the story.

The narrator ruined it

Why this narrator reads each male character like an automation, I have no idea. The female characters sound human but the male ones are just strange and so similar at times it's easy to mistake who is speaking.

The story is okay but the narration is enough for me not to read on in the series

Interesting

This shows some really good promise. It isn’t something that I have come across before and I must admit I’m intrigued by where the story is going to continue to

Boring

Started of well then it went down hill. I won't bother with book two. Too many unanswered questions so got boring.

Okay

This book is okay but by no means riveting. It's great to have on in the back ground while doing the housework or something as it's easy to keep up with what's going on. I have to say I didn't really like narrator. Her voice is rather annoying to listen too and her male voices are terrible, they all sound like petulant teenage boys. Not sure if I will be getting the next instalment.

Unique Storyline

What did you like most about Karma?

I went in to this book blind, only knowing what the synopsis said and I think it is the best way to enjoy the book and I really enjoyed this book. I found the storyline unique and the characters were interesting, complex and at times annoying, especially the main character Carmilia aka Karma who I found quite whiney/whingey the majority of the time. I could understand why Fate acted the way he did at times to her. Fate is portrayed as the bad bullying guy, but I didn't see him like that. In fact, I found that because I felt Karma was whiney/whingey person that I did not trust her judgement and discription of Fate's character. I think all the characters had redeemable qualities, even if I didn't always like them, like the way they treated other people or just didn't/make logcial decisions. I look forward to reading/listening to the next book in the series.

What about Angel Clark’s performance did you like?

I really liked Angel Clark's narration, I think she did a great job and I'l certainly listen to other books narrated by her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I started this book on a Friday, decided to listen to a bit more on the following Saturday and realised that I had to finish it in the same sitting. I wanted to know what happened next. I then purchased books #02, #03 both the eBooks and Audio books and then the final novella.

I LOVE this storyline!

This is a storyline I've been waiting an eternity to read. Like a female, modern day, Terry Pratchett type imagining, she is a strong, straight-up character I love!
Audio performance is a bit odd. Most characters are lively enough yet Angel seems to make the central character sound too coldly detached & wooden.
