Publisher's summary

Kahlil Gibran's aphorisms, stories, and poetry on a theme remain among some of those best known to Western readers. His views, however, extend beyond the most-quoted "greeting card" sayings to a wide realm of human emotions and relationships - passion, desire, idealized love, justice, friendship, and the challenges of dealing with strangers, neighbors, and enemies. This little book captures love and life in all of their complexities and nuances.

This little volume includes over ninety selections from Gibran's writings and is divided into four sections:

  • Love's Initiation
  • The Veils of Love
  • All of Our Relationships
  • A Love Beyond

This audiobook, ideal for all gift-giving occasions, is informative, illuminating, and inspirational.

Whom Do We Love?

When I stood, a clear mirror before you,

you gazed into me and saw your image.

Then you said, "I love you."

But in truth you loved yourself in me.

Love is the veil between lover and lover

Audio editing

The audio sounds highly compressed / de-essed /processed. And that takes away from the intelligibility of speech.
Some words are not clear at all I had to listen to the book multiple times.

The Arabic words and names are pronounced wrong

excellent selection

I am generally of the persuasion that rearrangement of an author's works by later spendthrift editors who can't come up with anything original in their own right and so coast the coat tails of passed greats is reprehensible. This volume however was a pleasantly surprising attack on my prejudice. Whether the unreasonable excellence of this project is due to the indomitable brilliance of Gibran or the skill of the compiling editor (who's name I have not remembered) I cannot say. But good things rarely necessitate excuse and I am content merely bask in the eminant balmy goodness of this short book.

Here's the thing..

Gibran is one of my absolute favorite writers/poets/philosophers of all time. I can't talk about his work because I feel like I could live a 100 years, and still not be qualified enough to critique Gibran's utterly beautiful and deeply profound body of works. It's thought-provoking. It's timeless. Just go read it/listen to it.

About the performance, the narrator was exquisite. Truly an excellent choice!

Mostly great, but not the best way to enjoy Gibran

There were some segments in the Little Book of Love that really hit home for me. For example, I especially enjoyed chapters 51 & 52 on love for another, chapters 72 & 76 on love for our Mother Earth, and chapter 81 on love in time of war. The problem I had was that although Kevin Kenerly does a good job on the narration, there are no signposts signaling the listener that Gibran is moving from one passage or idea to another. So, the items sometimes seem to run together. I believe a better way to enjoy and savor Gibran is in a traditional book, so you can see the words on the page, turn the page, and easily re-read great passages. The inclusion of the biographical information about Gibran at the end is a nice feature, but again this is something I would have liked to have seen, and lingered over. So, overall, the traditional book is a better experience than the audio book, but the audio book is certainly better than foregoing Gibran altogether.

Ok editing and performance

This was a free short book. The editors opinions are orientalist and the reading is average.
