Many people struggle to understand the whole process that led to the victory of an old-time politician who, on several occasions, stated that killing was his expertise, who paid lip service to the former military regime in Brazil, who said that his bedside book was authored by a known torturer, to whom Bolsonaro paid an homage while casting his vote in favor of the impeaching of the former president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, The same Bolsonaro that had disturbing ties to criminal militias in Rio de Janeiro and who, in spite of professing the Christian faith, in fact, represents the opposite of those core principles of Christianity: love thy neighbor and tolerance.
This book is a collection of articles that I published since January 2019 in Folha de São Paulo (newspaper) and in Carta Capital. It is an effort to understand the events that unfolded since Bolsonaro’s election and how an entire nation dove into this abyss.
