Story
A second wonderful collection of Just William stories, selected and read by Martin Jarvis. Richmal Crompton’s stories featuring irrepressible schoolboy William Brown have been firm favourites with both young and old for decades. Perpetually scruffy, mud-stained and mischievous, he is a lovable scamp whose pranks usually end in disaster - for his harassed elders at least. With friends Ginger, Douglas and Henry (the Outlaws) and the angelic thorn in his side, the lisping Violet Elizabeth Bott, William has rightly joined the literary and radio immortals.

Publisher's Summary
Written in 1948 and made into a popular film the same year, Just William's Luck is the only novel Richmal Crompton wrote featuring her famous hero. The action takes place throughout one extraordinary day in William's life. It begins harmlessly enough in the old barn and soon develops into a riotous comedy-thriller as the invincible schoolboy hatches a plot to marry off the elder brothers of The Outlaws.
All Crompton's celebrated characters are here: Ginger, Couglas, and Henry, the long-suffering Brown family, oily Hubert Lane, and 6-year-old control-freak Violet Elizabeth Bott. And leading the way, that timeless righter of wrongs, the incomparable William Brown himself.
Musical Theme: 'Won't You Be My Ginger?' composed and performed by Richard Dworsky (piano) (c) 1995 Inner Vista Music (BMI)

Written about a mischievous boy, these stories are perfect for middle schoolers on up. I LOVE the stories when I need a light, amusing, well-told tale.

A fabulous read
Personally I'm a huge fan of Martin Jarvis's interpretation of the Just William stories and thus my rating is biased from the outset. It's not the longest audio book and is a shame it isn't available unabridged, but is superbly read, funny, and should appeal to all ages. My children all adore these stories as do my own parents. Whenever we're in the car together, it is the Just William stories that get the unanimous vote, and this particular book is the one selected the most often.
If you haven't heard any of these stories before, then it is well worth a listen. You are introduced to all of the characters, so doesn't matter that this wasn't the first William book, and Jarvis reads it so wonderfully that it is a few hours of total enjoyment. I loved it!

Brilliant; shame about the rip.
I love just William and this as always is brilliant. Martin Jarvis loves his subject so dearly that he always brings every story to fantastic wicked life.
The only thing I have to say is that this is a very poor rip from the original cassette version. You can hear the spooling on the track. This would be fine and I don't mind usually, but I really wish audible would put warnings on poor quality recordings. The BBC do this on their sites and on their CD's and I believe it only fair to know what you are buying. There is also some voice drag. How very retro, I feel 8 years old again and frantically trying to rescue my beloved tapes before my player chewed them up!
Apart from that outstanding.

once again Martin Jarvis narrates excellently . I Love these 'books', it would be helpful if the stories didn't repeat quite so much-it's possible to buy the book to find most of the stories covered in the BBC compilation's. Still a 'jolly good listen' !

Story
December 1940. As German bombs fall on Southampton, England, the city's residents flee to the surrounding villages. In Upton village, amid the chaos, newly married Ellen Parr finds a girl asleep, unclaimed at the back of an empty bus. Little Pamela, it seems, is entirely alone. Ellen has always believed she does not want children, but when she takes Pamela into her home, the child cracks open the past Ellen thought she had escaped and the future she and her husband, Selwyn, had dreamed for themselves. As the war rages on, love grows where it was least expected, surprising them all.

Story
The young man with the shock of white-blond hair lay spread-eagled on the floor, surrounded by fallen books. His hand reached out to the scattered pages, as though he was trying to tell her something. But who is he? How did he come to be killed in Flora’s ordinary little bookshop? Flora finds out he was staying at the Priory Hotel, and when the gardener suddenly dies in its beautiful grounds only a few days later, she is certain that something untoward is happening in her quiet village by the sea.

Story
Now as famous on radio and audio as they are in print, the adventures of that irrepressible and ageless schoolboy William Brown have been delighting both young and old for decades. Perpetually scruffy, mud-stained, and mischievous, he is a lovable scamp whose pranks usually end in disaster, for his harassed elders at least. With friends Ginger, Douglas, and Henry (The Outlaws), and the angelic, lisping, thorn-in-his-side Violet Elizabeth Bott, William has rightly joined the literary, and radio, immortals. This volume of Just William features the following stories: William Goes To The Pictures, William The Intruder, William Below Stairs, The Fall Of The Idol, The Show, A Question Of Grammar, William Joins The Band Of Hope, The Outlaws, William And White Satin, William’s New Year’s Day, The Best Laid Plans, Jumble.
