Publisher's Summary

The second book in the classic Just William series, read by Martin Jarvis.

It was on Christmas Day that the centipede appeared on Aunt Evangeline's plate, the library clock was found mysteriously dismantled, and the conjuring trick with the egg went disastrously wrong. But as William's Aunt Lucy told him, "A Busy Day is a Happy Day" - and William is always eager to please adults. The terror of the Brown family is back, leaving a trail of havoc behind him - with the very best of intentions.

Great story & reading, let down by poor formatting

All the Just William stories are great - especially the unabridged ones - and are fantastically well read by Martin Jarvis.

This book is just as wonderful as any of the others I've listened to again and again, but whereas, I'd give the others 5*'s, I just wish the audible people would put the 'chapter breaks' for the chapters, not just randomly - which would make it a lot easier to skip through.

This book is more of a continuous story than collection of short (mis)adventures, so that, combined with careless formatting, means its much harder to find where you were up to before falling asleep!

Because of this I wouldn't recommend it as highly as the others (such as William - The Pirate, or William's happy days) which are easier play time and time starting at different points, but if you're like me you'll have to get the whole collection anyway!

wonderful use of English "vituperation"

For me Just William is just marvelous. Watch out for these lovely words. The story lines often rely heavily on short sightedness but Williams flights of imagination are all too realistic.

great narration for mixed bag of William stories

What did you like most about Just William - More William?

Martin Jarvis' performance was excellent as always.

Would you be willing to try another book from Richmal Crompton? Why or why not?

Of course.

What about Martin Jarvis’s performance did you like?

He puts such joy into the variety of voices

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

-

Any additional comments?

The characters don't seem to be fully formed and as such the stories are a little mixed. Enjoyable but not your first port of call for fantastic Just William stories.

Martin Jarvis is Brilliant

Would you listen to Just William - More William again? Why?

Funny stories made even funnier by Martin Jarvis' reading. He's got great comic timing.

William is such a winning character. Sometimes beaten but never defeated.

Have you listened to any of Martin Jarvis’s other performances? How does this one compare?

David Copperfield is a beautiful audiobook in his hands. Evil is real and so is goodness. This one is a different beast, almost entirely comic.

More William

This is the second of the Just William collection read by Martin Jarvis, who does a fantastic job in bringing William to life. Unlike the first book, this is not written in the first person, but does not suffer for it as the wry observations of the storyteller add significantly to the humour, especially for adults. We listened to it in the car on a long journey and it kept both the adults and the children (aged 5 and 7) amused. William continues to be as naughty as ever, and remains firm in his convictions that he means it all for the best. One note of caution however, the final chapter discusses Christmas and the fact that Father Christmas does not not exist. Given that at the time of listening, both my children still believed in him, this was a shame.

William rocks!

Would you listen to Just William - More William again? Why?

I disgraced myself - again - listening to this while on a train. With the combination of Richmal Crompton's writing and Martin Jarvis's reading, the chances of not laughing out loud are absolutely zero. The story of William's Christmas present and its effect on his long suffering family is absolutely hilarious, and the account of his appearance on the village hall stage will have you weeping with laughter. If you're feeling a bit blue this winter, buy yourself a William book read by Martin Jarvis and laugh yourself well.

Who was your favorite character and why?

William of course - there simply isn't another character!

Which character – as performed by Martin Jarvis – was your favourite?

D'uh - William!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Moved me to laugh out loud - William and his little cousin on Christmas morning.

AMAZING!!

Martin Jarvis captures More William in a nut shell. All the short stories are entertaining enjoyable and impeccably exacted. These stories are great for all ages as there is a great range in humour depth, these stories are light enough to entertain a 4 year old yet they also include genius humour and magnificent plots that could easily satisfy any adult. Richmal Crompton captures the essence of being an 11 year old child in the twentieth century. Crompton has an amazing understanding of children as well as an amazing imagination. This book is extremely entertaining. I didn't want to stop listening. Highly recommend.
