Publisher's Summary

Three women, three secrets, one life-changing journey.

Alice has always been a trailblazer as a scientist, activist, and mother. She knew her choices would involve sacrifices, but now, on the eve of her 80th birthday, she's beginning to wonder if she's sacrificed too much.

Alice's daughter, Sappho, rebelled against her unconventional upbringing, choosing to marry young and embrace life as a homemaker, but her status as a domestic goddess has recently taken a surprising turn.

Ged has always been the peacemaker between her grandmother and mother. A tenacious journalist, she knows what she wants in life and love, yet when everything in her world starts falling apart, she begins to question whether she really knows anyone at all.

At a crossroads in each of their lives, Alice, Sappho, and Ged embark on a celebratory trip together, but instead of bringing them closer, the holiday sparks life-changing consequences and lifts the lid on a 50-year-old secret.

Can Ged rescue her family if their story is built on a betrayal?

From best-selling, ABIA award-winning author Rachael Johns comes an engrossing and wise novel about ambition, choices, and what it means to be a woman.

Had potential

This story had so much potential at the start however, personally the OTT women's rights opinions annoyed me, as in life....I feel as a woman myself, that not accepting someone else's difference of opinion (ie: on the ship...Jay's valid, and supported opinion....was not her opinion there she did not accept it and was angry and cut herself off from him) is extremely shallow and, actually sexist, and does more harm than good to women's rights. I always wonder what happens if these women have sons.

Provides much to reflect on ....

As an active feminist from back in the 60s onwards, this book gave me a lot to think about, all wrapped up in a good storyline. It reminded me of people and events from the past and the opportunity to compare them with contemporary events, especially now with investigations being demanded into life in public institutions in Australia.
I can see that as an author, Rachael Johns has grown in her ability to involve noteworthy contemporary Australian issues in her books, not just limiting herself to bush chick-lit romance tales. Good on you Rachael. Your grounding still remains as honest to goodness Australian womanhood, but sometimes, for my own relaxation, I wish I could read another Wheatbelt story and love the characters and the simple plot as I used to.
Thanks for yet another good book!

Loved this

I really enjoyed the journey of this book, a divine dive into the life of three remarkably ordinary women discovering their truth and how to live with it.

Engaging and real

I usually only listen to audiobooks in the car, but with this one I couldn’t wait until next trip.
