Publisher's summary

Hetta Coffey is a sassy Texan with a snazzy yacht and she's not afraid to use it!

After several months of cruising Mexico's hauntingly beautiful Sea of Cortez, Hetta's in Puerto Escondido, a place once described by author John Steinbeck as "a magic harbor". Anchored out, swaying on the hook at the whim of breeze and tide, surrounded by magnificent views and turquoise water can be magical. Stuck at anchor alone? Not so much.

So when her best friend, Jan, gets them an invite to a party at a nearby luxury resort hosted by a Japanese businessman - all expenses paid - Hetta figures, why not? Why turn down an evening of free food and booze? And besides, what could possibly go wrong?

With Hetta involved? Plenty.

Not only are she and Jan soon up to their necks in hot sake, a succession of unsavory intruders sends Hetta scurrying for a safe harbor, but not before she reaches the conclusion that some folks just need killin'.

I love Hetta Coffe

Would you listen to Just Needs Killin' again? Why?

Yes, I would listen to it again. The story is a great continuation of the Hetta Coffee series. It's lighthearted and fun.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoy getting to know the characters. I also love learning about the Sea of Cortez and its history.

What three words best describe Stevie Puckett’s voice?

Shrill
Consistent
Fair

Who was the most memorable character of Just Needs Killin' and why?

Definitely Hetta. The other characters are always peripheral to her. without Hetta there would be no story.

Any additional comments?

Stevie Puckett's voicing of Jan is too shrill and hard to listen to. Otherwise she does a good performance of the book.

Hate narrator changes

The story was very good as usual but the new narrator is horrible. The voice for Jan was over the top annoying I felt like it was being read by a 12 year old. There were places where she would start speaking much slower then go back to normal. . I'll finish the series but I will be reading the rest of them.

Jan needs killing

Jan with her voice really got on my nerves but I listened to the end. Hetta and po thing make the story worth listening to. With all the characters from Japan to Mexico I don't know how anyone could keep up. Po-thing awesome diving dog. Not a suspense novel but defiantly comedy.

Light Read, Bad Narrator

I received this book free for an unbiased review.

It was very difficult to be impartial about the plot and/or the characters because the narrator was really distracting. She has kind of a singsong voice that didn't lend itself to much if any dramatic license. Many times a great narrator can save a so so book, this narrator made an average book almost impossible to listen to. I finally upped the speed to 1.5 just to get through it.
The book itself, could have been some fun. It had a great setting, and good historical background. I didn't care much for any of the characters, they were morally gray, no white hats here. I also found the dialog uninspired. If they said, "You've got some splainin to do!" one more time... I guess the characters were supposed to be a modern day Lucy and Ethel team, but honestly I just found it trite.

Witty and interesting

Where does Just Needs Killin' rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Better than many I have listened to lately

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not suspenseful, but definitely kept me interested

Which character – as performed by Stevie Puckett – was your favorite?

Hetta.
I will say that I did not like the voice of Jan- overdone and too high pitched. She had a great character, but the voice portrayal didn't do her justice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Entertaining Listen!!!

I have read several books in this series and enjoy the characters. This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. I so enjoy the main character of Hetta Coffey and her friend Jan. Stevie Puckett did a great performance with the various characters. I found this book to be original and fun. I will definitely look for more listens in the series. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author. publisher, and/or narrator. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it.

Could have been better with a different narrator

Would you try another book from Jinx Schwartz and/or Stevie Puckett?

I probably would try another book by Jinx Schwartz if it was narrated by someone else.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jinx Schwartz? Why or why not?

This book was difficult to get into and to get all the way through. The narration was very distracting to the story. She was trying to hard to be upbeat and some of her voices were annoying and just wrong.

Would you be willing to try another one of Stevie Puckett’s performances?

No, I don't think so.

Another great book from Jinx Schwartz

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book, and the complete Hetta Coffey series.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

IMO the narrator's voice for Jan was way over played...too high, squeaky, and out of character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I have a hard time putting down any of the books in this series, but also hate when they end.

Fabulous

Would you consider the audio edition of Just Needs Killin' to be better than the print version?

Equal editions. With the audio, someone else tells you what is happening. When I read it myself, it plays out in my head!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Just Needs Killin'?

Anything with Po Thang.

Which character – as performed by Stevie Puckett – was your favorite?

I think Jan as I always figured Hetta's voice was deeper than that.
