This is the story of a dry cargo ship which worked the Great Lakes for 69 years. In her glorious but quiet life, she never lost one single mariner's life, and completed safely all her voyages. She survived the weather, wars, depression, and attacks from most every direction, in a period when the human race witnessed the transition from horse and buggy transportation, to space flights. Her journey from her place of birth to the scrap pile parallels many lives on the waterways. This is a modest homage to the people who built Jupiter, and to all those mariners who sailed her.

I also enjoyed hearing how the Great Lakes compare with sailing the ocean blue. Ha, ha to any sailor who came to the Great Lakes thinking that inland water would not need the intense knowledge that applies to the ocean. These lakes have it going on!
Interesting

If you could sum up Jupiter in three words, what would they be?
Historical, interesting, well read.Have you listened to any of Betsie Bush’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Betsie does her usual great job with the narration. She has a warm narration style with excellent diction and pacing. Always a pleasure to listen to.Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I found it really interesting how Jupiter came to be known as The Ghost Ship.Any additional comments?
Gives insight into the workings of the ships in those days. You also learn that often members of the crew would decide whether or not to sign on board based on who held a certain position on the ship....and it was not the captain.Birth to death of a Great Lakes ship
