Publisher's summary

Julian Fellowes's Belgravia is the story of a secret. A secret that unravels behind the porticoed doors of London's grandest postcode. Set in the 1840s, when the upper echelons of society began to rub shoulders with the emerging industrial nouveau riche, Belgravia is peopled by a rich cast of characters. But the story begins on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. At the Duchess of Richmond's new legendary ball, one family's life will change forever.

Critic reviews

"...the story is expertly narrated by [Juliet] Stevenson, who paces it expertly in her highly listenable voice. Her delicious characterizations include some aggrieved and unctuous younger sons, a breathtakingly crisp countess, a good-hearted hero, a spirited heroine, shiver-inducing cardsharps, and oh so many more." Couldn't Put it Down All Week!

Loved this book! Very Downton Abbey-esque, in the best ways possible. There are heroes, there are villains, and there are those who will surprise you. The writing is sharp and the storytelling is superb.

Perhaps not the most unpredictable of plots, but an enjoyable read nonetheless. Julian Fellowes is just as good on paper as he is on the screen, and I couldn't put this one down.

I also loved the narrator, so an all-around win!

Lovely read

So very good. Narration is splendid! Enjoyed the glimpse into the lives above and below stairs, although most of the action takes place above. Will listen to this again!

Phenomenal!

Phenomenal! Lives up to Fellowes' reputation and exceeded my expectations! The characters were great albeit not quite as funny as DA's. Well worth the listen.

Good Albeit predictable

I enjoyed this book. Yes, it was a bit predictable, but the story was good. The characters were well developed giving the reader the ability to relate to them as the story unfolds. The performance of the narrator was excellent! Her talent of creating voices and accents for the different characters added to the enjoyment of the narration.

Everything you love about Downton Abbey...

Any additional comments?

I am a huge Downton Abbey fan and so when I read other reviews that this book was a similar style/context, I was excited to re-enter that world. I was not disappointed. Julian Fellows knows how to keep you entertained and supplies you with enough detail to appreciate the period without boring you with those details. The characters are interesting, though sometimes predictable. But just like Downton Abbey, he gives you a very satisfying circle of events, even though some of the situations are improbable. Overall, this is a well-written guilty pleasure.
