Publisher's summary

Simon Reeve reveals more of his journeys, tales and lessons for life.

In Journeys to Impossible Places, best-selling author and presenter Simon Reeve reveals the inside story of his most astonishing adventures and experiences, around the planet and close to home.

Journeys to Impossible Places continues the story Simon started in his phenomenal Sunday Times best seller Step by Step, which traced the first decades of his life from depressed and unemployed teenager through to his early TV programmes.

Now Simon takes us on the epic and thrilling adventures that followed, in beautiful, tricky and downright dangerous corners of the world, as he travelled through the Tropics, to remote paradise islands, jungles dripping with heat and life and on nerve-wracking secret missions.

Simon shares what his unique experiences and encounters have taught him, and the deeper lessons he draws from joy and raw grief in his personal life, from desperate struggles with his own fertility and head health, from wise friends, fatherhood, inspiring villagers, brave fighters, his beloved dogs and a thoughtful Indian sadhu.

Journeys to Impossible Places inspires and encourages all of us to battle fear and negativity and embrace life, risk, opportunities and the glory of our world.

Excellent!

Exactly what I needed as a mom desperate to find the right words or approach to help my teenage son cope with his own similar struggles and show him he CAN and will get through this.
Thank you.

Wonderful

I loved this book. Simon is an expert story teller. Whether a world trip or a simple encounter with a dog to a more personal story.

Not as good as his first book

Really love Simon's TV programmes and his first book Step by Step was first-rate. This one is still good and informative on his journeys and personal development . However, it is spoilt by a determination to keep reflecting on lessons learnt from his travels. These become far too preachy and his voice and enthusiasm which were such a strength in the first book now become annoying unless you identify with his views

Good but not his best

I love Simon Reeves and his superb programmes , journeys and books. This one rambles on a bit though and I found some of the side stories confusing with the chronology.
I think its been done in a bit of a hurry. I lost count of the use of the word "fundamental" and "profound". A bad edit.
It's a very philosophical book and I loved some of it. His wonder and joy at the birth of his son brought a tear to my eye and our shared experiences as an older dad resonates with myself.
A good book worth a listen .

More in depth and behind the scenes

I loved this book by Simon reeve, he goes more in depth about some of his journeys into the parts we didn’t see in programmes but also how his experiences translate and have impacted his personal family life. He brings the excitement, emotion and sadness with his narration.
A lovely book, and if you are a fan of his and his programmes you will enjoy it!

Thought provoking.

A interesting, thought provoking listen.
A bit too heavy for me, at times, but it was all linked together.
Very well narrated.

Thoughtful, wise, moving and fascinating.

I loved everything about this book, and will listen again over time to most or all of it. Simon shares so many stories and nuggets of wisdom stemming from his travels and personal challenges, which are all honest, insightful and at times very moving. Highly recommended.

A personal journey as much as travel writing

Impossible Places gives the reader a lot to think about and reflect upon, just as journeys should. Not only is attention brought to environmental and humanitarian issues, but also to being a parent, making a home, and belonging to a community. A really inspiring and enjoyable listen!

Very enjoyable

Not the book I was initially expecting. Some of Simon’s recollection drag out a bit but overall I appreciated his candour. I especially enjoyed the last 90min of the book. The last chapter is outstanding.

Raw, life affirming and pure honesty.

Probably the most interesting, emotion provoking memoir I have listened to in years.
Simon is a fantastic narrator of his own well thought out compilation of life highlights.
