Publisher's summary

How does a mother cope with the loss of her son?

Mitzi Montague-Bauer has created a deeply personal, raw, and vulnerable account of her attempt to find meaning in her son’s life experience, cut short by “mental illness” and subsequent apparent suicide.

Bound together by eternal love, Mitzi and Journey travel a winding path. The gripping, exquisitely crafted narrative engages so thoroughly; Mitzi’s worry, guilt, fear, hope, and love are palpable. Those emotions are beautifully complimented by Journey’s brilliant, compassionate, prescient writings, reflecting wisdom drawn from a higher source. Journey leads you beyond coping and acceptance to the surprising possibility of embracing tragedy.

A spiritual tale clothed in a human experience, this book explores the deepest essence of this experience called “life” and speaks to the eternal questions: Who am I, and why am I here?

Journey, it seems, entered this world to shine a light on what society calls mental illness. He came to teach us that at the core we are all love and to trust in the divine. His legacy endures through “Journey’s Dream”, a not-for-profit organization.

As fiction, Journey would be acclaimed a work of creative genius; as nonfiction, it rests at the pinnacle of inspired, masterful storytelling. It will nurture your soul.

From one Mom to many others

After having two children die from things other than suicide, I thought this would be a hard book to get through while driving. Our remaining child is bipolar with a couple of other Dx in there and he is most like Journey. I am amazed this could be written within 4 months of Journey's death. I'm 4 years out from our second son's death and couldn't be this eloquent. I will be checking the website for our remaining son. Nothing seems to work, for long. A good book for parents struggling with a child's mental illness. it really is almost as bad as dealing with the death of a child.

Review of Jourmey

Thank you Mitzi for this amazing book. Being a mother that went through a big struggle with my own son i can certainly understand some of your struggles, pain, frustration and lose of control. I am so thankful for this book which is spot on with the confusion of why there are no alternative options or few that allow for all benefits of various options for help with mental illness. I thank God for you and your amazing insight and compassion. I will be telling everyone I no about this book and your organization. This truly broke my heart for you and Journey and my hope is only good things await you and your entire family. Thank you Courtney Boucher Hunsucker

Profound, life-changing, poetic; a book I couldn’t put down and will not forget.

Where do I start? “Journey” gripped my heart from the first paragraph and did not let go. I laughed out loud, felt my heart ache and break, and experienced true healing along with Mitzi and Journey.

The authors’ styles were at once simple and poetic, beautiful to listen to in their own right. The narration was perfect!

Most notably, after listening to this book, I will forever look at the world through different eyes; eyes that see mental illness in a completely new, enlightening and inspiring way. Eyes of compassion and inquiry. Walking Mitzi and Journey‘s paths along with them has inspired me to make eye contact, offer a smile and compassion when I see someone in the world who looks or behaves differently than I do.

Thank you, Journey for inspiring this incredible story of healing. Thank you, Mitzi for your honesty and courage to share it with the world.
