Publisher's Summary

Meet Josefina Montoya, a nine-year-old girl growning up in New Mexico in 1824. Josefina and her sisters have been struggling ever since Mama died a year ago. When Mama's sister, Tia Dolores, comes to live on their rancho, the girls are overjoyed. But Tia Dolores has lots of new ideas! She starts a family weaving business. And she teaches the girls to read, something Mama never learned to do. Josefina worries that all of Tia Dolores' changes will make them forget Mama. Meantime, traders from Missouri are arriving on the Santa Fe Trail, bringing new ideas of their own.

Wonderful Children's Book

My two girls enjoyed this audiobook very much. The stories are filled with vivid descriptions and subtle moral lessons. I am sure we will return to Josefina again and again as they grow older. This was our first experience with the American Girl collection, and we will certainly return for more!

Not the most appropriate reader

This book takes place in New Mexico when it was part of Mexico. There are several Spanish words sprinkled throughout the book. The Reader does not pronounce them correctly as a Spanish speaker this is quite frustrating. The author did a wonderful job researching our culture and traditional but again I just wish it would have been read with the same care.

Incredible Book! ❤️

I liked the surprises. And the funniness. And the sad parts. My favorite character was Anna, the most oldest sister.

There was nothing about this book I didn't like.

I would recommend this book to boys and girls ages 7-12. I am seven years old. And I love the book and Josefina!
