Jo March Bhaer, who first appeared in Little Women, returns as the compassionate mentor to the boys and girls of Plumfield school. The original students are now young men and women, scattered the world over but always drawn to Plumfield to share their experiences. With fond memories of their school days to comfort them, the young men travel far and wide in search of happiness and fulfillment. The firebrand Dan finds adventure and peril in the American West. Emil’s life is threatened as he sails the high seas. And all the while, tender romances are finally blossoming.

Based on real-life people and events, Jo’s Boys has struck an affectionate chord with generations of readers since its publication. The stories of many cherished characters - from both Little Women and Little Men - are given satisfying, heart-warming conclusions. Barbara Caruso’s affectionate narration carries readers back to New England in the late 1800s, when life was simpler but still full of adventure.

The Little Women Trilogy are my feel good books; I can (and have) read them over and over, in any circumstance.

What sets this version apart is Barbara Caruso’s narration. I listen to this before bed and her voice is like a mother or grandmother reading her children to sleep. She varies the voices just enough to tell the difference within conversation, but not so much that it takes you out of the story.

Highly recommend.

An excellent narrator for a classic book

While the final novel is not nearly as plot driven as the others, it does a nice job taking the boys from the second novel and making them men.
Resolutions are realistic, more so than romantic. Alcott’s personal beliefs, particularly regarding religion and sin, receive a larger spotlight and at times border on preachy.
That said, the novels’ interpretations of suffrage and the increased role of women in society are fun to observe. Alcott saw the movements coming to fruition, even if she didn’t live to see them.

Satisfying Conclusion to Series

I enjoyed the final instalment in the Little Women trilogy as the children are now young adults and their lives are taking shape. The narrator added to my overall enjoyment.

Well loved story, good performance

I love the whole March story and we listened right through from Little Women, but I thought this reader missed the mark a little, she isn't good at different voices so it was difficult at times to know which character was speaking, and at times I felt she had the emphasis in the wrong place, and some words seemed to be pronounced a little oddly. This said, we did listen to the whole book and still enjoyed it.

A Childhood Favourite

Loved it! Jo's Boys is a great conclusion to the chronicles of the March family. Several times it was a little hard to tell some voices a part, but overall the narrator does a great job with expression and emotioη. Πιστεύω Θεον, εστι αγάπη.
