Publisher's Summary

This is the award-winning story of a young woman who triumphed over devastating odds to touch countless lives the world over with the healing message of Christ.

In a split second on a hot July afternoon, a diving accident transformed the life of Joni Eareckson Tada forever. She went from being an active young woman to facing everyday in a wheelchair. In this unforgettable autobiography, Joni reveals each step of her struggle to accept her disability and discover the meaning of her life. The hard-earned truths she discovers and the special ways God reveals his love are testimonies to faith's triumph over hardship and suffering.

The new 25th Anniversary edition of this award-winning story, which has more than 3,000,000 copies in print in over 40 languages, will introduce a new generation of readers to the incredible greatness of God's power and mercy at work in those who fully give their hearts and lives to him.

Joni has written an afterword in which she describes the events that have occurred in her life since the book's publication in 1976, including her marriage to Ken Tada and the expansion of her worldwide ministry to families affected by disability.

Honest, moving, life changing!

Any additional comments?

I read Joni's book in the 80s when I was a young girl and I never forgot it. Reading it (or hearing it) now in my 40's was the same in the sense that it was gripping and emotional and touched my heart and spirit but it was also wonderful to be able to get so much more out of it now that I am older. I expect to listen to/read this book again in years to come and again get something more and deeper out of it as I grow in life experience and my relationship with God. Joni's ability to tell her story without overdramatizing and with honest telling of her own doubts, fears, and faults is the most impactful way of expressing God's love. I'm sure this is why this story has resonated with so many different people, because it is so forthright and honest and touches the core that is the same in us all in spite of our differences.

Wonderful story

I had read this book as a child. Now, as a adult, I listened to it with a different perspective. It is so encouraging and uplifting. It should be a must-read for every Christian!

Very spiritually uplifting

It was read by the author & she did a really good job reading with expression. Very Biblical in her message. Great story.

It's ok.

It didn't read ALL if it to me which (in my opinion) is rather disappointing. And a waist of money. It says 5 hours and 59 mins but it is wrong. It is only about 8 mins long

I'm 52 years old, and I read Joni's book back in the 1970s. I have now just listened to the audio book. What an incredible woman, living an incredible life. What a blessing Joni is to the WORLD.

Wow! What a book!

This is my first time reading this book. I wish I had read it much sooner. It is so good. So honest. So true to life. A wonderful demonstration of the power of the gospel. If you haven't, please read this book - you will be glad you did!

The book I've been waiting for.

This isn't a story of pity but of joy. What it means to understand no matter what our physical condition, we have a purpose in this life. I have been through many of Joni's early experiences of being paralysed in hospital. The feelings of hopelessness and vulnerability. It took Joni's book and the spiritual help from two loving cousins to realise that my life isn't over yet. I still can have purpose and meaning in this life.

So inspiring

Such a great book, and has huge appeal to any listener going through any sort of affliction. Joni is so honest and gracious and she gives the listener so much hope, in what is a very powerful testimony to the love and grace of the Lord. Lovely that it is read by her. Highly recommended.
