Honest, moving, life changing!

Any additional comments?

I read Joni's book in the 80s when I was a young girl and I never forgot it. Reading it (or hearing it) now in my 40's was the same in the sense that it was gripping and emotional and touched my heart and spirit but it was also wonderful to be able to get so much more out of it now that I am older. I expect to listen to/read this book again in years to come and again get something more and deeper out of it as I grow in life experience and my relationship with God. Joni's ability to tell her story without overdramatizing and with honest telling of her own doubts, fears, and faults is the most impactful way of expressing God's love. I'm sure this is why this story has resonated with so many different people, because it is so forthright and honest and touches the core that is the same in us all in spite of our differences.

Encouraging!!

I was hit by an 18-wheeler 20 years ago. Everyday, the pain continues to worsen. Even the implanted pain pump that drips morphine continually into my spinal cord has become totally useless against the horrific pain. I was in an electric wheelchair until the pain pump was implanted. It seemed to help the neuropathy that shoots down my legs enough that I was able to exchange my wheelchair for a walker, and even on good days, a cane. But I guess my body has grown accustomed to the medication, & the increased dosages. I finally said “Enough! No more increases!” I must learn to deal with this mind-numbing pain another way! All of these drugs pumping through my body is not good! One causes this problem, so we counteract it with another medication, and so on, and so on...!”
I have decided to try to learn more by listening to Joni’s books, listening to the Scriptures, & learning to lean on God, instead of the medications that do such horrendous things to my body! My body seems to be heading back to the wheelchair, & though I really don’t want that, I will accept it, if that is what God allows. I will learn to lean hard on Him & listening to books like this one helps to encourage me to do just that. Thank you.

Wonderful story

I had read this book as a child. Now, as a adult, I listened to it with a different perspective. It is so encouraging and uplifting. It should be a must-read for every Christian!

A Wonderful Story of Encouragement

I am currently in my late fifties and I originally heard about this book shortly after it's initial publication but I never read it. Now that it's been 50 years since her accident I thought I would give it a shot.
I love Joni's honesty about some of her early life indiscretions and how that affected her spiritual life. Her ups and downs dealing with paralysis. And finally, the Lord being able to use her as a mouthpiece to reach others through her art.
My only question is, does she still draw?

Brilliant heartfelt Story

My husband and I listened to this audible book on the way to his Neurologist appointment. My husband was enlightened and encourage. He has MS and for years probably have up. Listening to Joni's story has given his a new sentence to continue moving with the limits he has. Thanks you Joni.

Love This Book

This book is very humbling for the reader and brings into remembrance that there is always something to be thankful for. It also shows that hard times don’t necessarily mean God doesn’t love you, especially when you’ve done all you know to do right. Hard times means He wants to show His powerful, healing love for you, and He wants to show that same love through you to others who have suffered greatly. It’s a better, more peaceful, more joyful way in Him, that takes faith! This book is very good. I needed to hear it.

The book I've been waiting for.

This isn't a story of pity but of joy. What it means to understand no matter what our physical condition, we have a purpose in this life. I have been through many of Joni's early experiences of being paralysed in hospital. The feelings of hopelessness and vulnerability. It took Joni's book and the spiritual help from two loving cousins to realise that my life isn't over yet. I still can have purpose and meaning in this life.

Amazing story of faith, perseverance and positivity

I read this book as a teenager in the 80’s and connected with it then, learning from Joni’s wisdom, insight and faith. Now listening to Joni reading it out loud on Audible as an adult I love it even more. Thank you Joni for sharing your story.
