A North of Ireland woman learns through her child's tragedy how to face her prejudices while on a holiday in Turkey. Shortlisted for the Willesden Prize, Jolt is a story about perception and ingrained prejudices that we can carry around with us in our everyday lives. Sometimes it can take a journey to a strange place to waken us into a less intransigent way of seeing the world.

Tragedies very hard to write. Normally people write tragedies just unfortunate events. A tragedy is so much more than that.
A GOOD tragedy is writen not only as unfortunate events, but delves into the characters mindset and enables the reader to see how they deal with it.
In this book, the characters deal with grief. Loss can tear a family apart. People need to be strong and face loss and not run from it. It is a beautiful novella but very short.
It suffers however from a lackluster performance by Heber Rowan. He is a talented narrator with a good inflection and range. He however uses too many unecessary pauses in hte middle of his performance. Its like he is searching for the word ne deeds to say next.

Heber Rowan has a nice voice, but I found it a bit broken at times.

The narrator has a lovely voice but has a hard time maintaining flow. There are far too many jarring moments where it's clear that he's reading unfamiliar material.
