Joel Selwood’s remarkable leadership is well-known across AFL football. Selwood will not only go down in history as an icon of the game – a record breaker – but also as a selfless leader who supported his team through one of the club’s most successful periods in its history. After Selwood was made captain of the team in 2012, Geelong made the finals in all but one season, playing in seven preliminary finals and two Grand Finals – culminating in Geelong’s tenth premiership in 2022.
Now, for the first time, Selwood tells his story in his own words.
All In relives the highs of Selwood’s proudest career moments, but also the lows battling the physical and personal challenges in his life, from his infamous knee injury to the impact of COVID-19 on the AFL 2020 and 2021 seasons. Selwood also describes the bravery, disappointment and celebration entering the IVF merry-go-round with his wife, Brit, to finally have their son, Joey Victor Selwood.

As a lifelong Cats fan growing up western Victoria, and then living in Oregon since 2005, I have watched the Oregon Ducks play in person more than I have had the privilege to see Joel and the Cats play in person since my move to the US. The first time I saw Joel play was in 2013 at the clubs first ever home night game in Geelong, against Gary Ablett and the Gold Coast Suns.
But I've loved watching Joel and the Cats play from afar, including getting up at 2:30am to watch finals. All In was an engaging listen from start to finish. It provided a great insight to one of the AFL's greatest players and mindsets, covering training habits, overcoming injuries, and Joel's relationships at the club, Joel gives an open review of his time as a player, with each chapter standing alone as a dive into every year in Joel's journey to become the best player and leader he could be for the Geelong Football Club. Looking forward to watching the Cats play when we next visit family in Australia.
