Jesus Speaks about John

This book invites us to listen to the voice of Jesus as He speaks about John, His beloved disciple. John, the Apostle, is not only remembered as the one who leaned on the heart of Christ during the Last Supper, but also as the faithful witness who remained at the foot of the Cross when others had fled. In his closeness to Jesus, we discover both tenderness and courage: a love that listens, contemplates, and perseveres even in the darkest hour.

Through John, we encounter the example of a disciple who allowed himself to be transformed by love. His writings echo with intimacy, light, and truth — reminding us that to follow Christ is not merely to walk behind Him, but to live from the very heart of His mystery. The Gospel and letters of John open a window into divine love, calling us to abide in Christ and to let His Spirit shape our lives.

In meditating on these passages, we are called not only to admire John’s faithfulness but also to imitate it, we are called to recognize our own call to be beloved disciples. Just as John rested on the heart of Jesus, bore witness to the Word made flesh and revealed the depth of God’s love; we too are invited to become living witnesses of Christ in the world. To be like John is to listen deeply to the Voice of God, to remain steadfast, and to reflect with our lives the light that no darkness can overcome.

1st Letter of John, 1

• Jesus, what did your apostle John teach us?
• My son, John spoke of Me and said: Behold, what was from the beginning, which we have heard, and have seen with our eyes, and have touched with our hands, even the Word, which is life.
• Jesus, and why did John speak about you?
• My son, because the life, which is I, made myself known, and John then says that: We have seen the eternal Life and we speak of it, and we announce it to you, the one who was with the Father and who was made known to us.
• Jesus, why does John announce to us what he has seen?
• My son, John says: What I have seen we also announce to you, so that you may have fellowship with us, just as we have fellowship with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
• Jesus, and why does John write this?
• My son, John affirms: We write this to you so that our joy may be greater.
• Jesus, what was the message that John received from you?
• My son, John says: This is the message we have received from Him and announce to you: That God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.
