Publisher's Summary

God has always been interested in turning unlikely people into his most fervent followers. Prostitutes and pagans, tax collectors and tricksters. The more unlikely, the more it seemed to please God and to demonstrate his power, might, and mercy. America in the 1960s and 1970s was full of unlikely people - men and women who had rejected the stuffy religion of their parents' generation, who didn't follow the rules, didn't fit in. The perfect setting for the greatest spiritual awakening of the 20th century.

With passion and purpose, Greg Laurie and Ellen Vaughn tell the amazing true story of the Jesus Movement, an extraordinary time of mass revival, renewal, and reconciliation. Setting fascinating personal stories within the context of one of the most tumultuous times in modern history, the authors draw important parallels with our own time of spiritual apathy or outright hostility, offering hope for the next generation of unlikely believers - and for the next great American revival.

Those who lived through the Jesus Revolution will find here an inspiring reminder of the times and people that shaped their lives and faith. Younger listeners will discover a forgotten part of recent American history and, along with it, a reason to believe that God is not finished with their generation.

The Lord is always working!

I was surprised how the book had alot of topical references to the 60s and 70s. MLK , JFK, assassinations and how it affected the young generation at the time. I find this book very relatable to the times we are in and I pray everyday for a new Jesus Revolution!

A compelling read (or listen)

This is a good one. I bought the Audible version and can’t stop listening. Want to know the basic story of how it all started? (“It” being Calvary Chapel, Contemporary Christian Music, the Jesus movement and many of the giant churches and many offshoots that continue to this day…?) Here it is, warts and all, told by Greg Laurie, one of the ones who was there at the start and is still carrying the torch today. I’m particularly gratified that Lonnie Frisbee is included significantly here, since he WAS a significant - though tragic - figure in CC history. Would that Holy Spirit would spark a new Jesus movement in these troubled times.

Prepare to blow your nose

This book made me laugh and cry, not because it was written and designed to bring forth emotion. I cried because I went through the Jesus Movement in my youth,
but hey back in the day, the public junior high school I attended allowed a "Christian Rock Band" to hold an assembly. This was new and unusual for our conservative town. And then, the band leader stopped to tell us about Jesus and how we could be forgiven and enter into God's Kingdom. Then this kid gave a short alter call, and at least "Half" of the school went forward to receive Christ. Being in Junior high is a difficult time for everyone, but talk about a receptive audience. There was at least 15 churches in town and many of the pastors were angry that the school allowed rock music into an organized school event, even though they benefited from it. Many of the churches grew by leaps and bounds as converts came in like a never ending wave. God opened the door and crime went down, school fights became rare, and thousands of lives were changed forever. It was great to hear the same story from another part of So Cal by Greg Laurie. His experience happened on a much bigger scale. Great book and I really enjoyed it!

Excellent Context

This book helped me to more fully understand the events of the past linked with Christianity. This is a much needed work for millennials! Thank you, Greg. Your Harvest Crusade reached me in 2000 and hearing more about your past was such an encouragement.

History retold, not rewritten

Often today, history is being rewritten or whitewashed to not tell the whole story. With Jesus Revolution, that is not the case.

If you love history and want to learn about this slice from the 60's & 70's you will love this book. I lived through both of these decades but was too young during the 60's to know a lot that occurred then so this was educational for me. I did know more about the 70's but learned a lot I did not know about that decade too

This history is told through the lens of Greg Laurie, someone who was there and lived through it and was forever changed during the Jesus Revolution...and God has used him to change countless live since then.

This book could change your life and will educate and inform you. You will not be disappointed.

Get yours today and join the Jesus Revolution!

The walk with Jesus

Jesus came to me in this period, I remember good times of a new me.
the Jesus people times were not always easy a lot of the religious types were I think a bit afraid of so many coming to know Jesus, Judgement was making it hard for some of us. so many fell away, but so many carried on with our Lord.
