Publisher's Summary

A magical, heartwarming memoir from one of Hollywood’s most beloved icons

Over the past four decades, the landmark NBC hit television series I Dream of Jeannie has delighted generations of audiences and inspired untold numbers of teenage crushes on its beautiful blond star, Barbara Eden. Part pristine Hollywood princess and part classic bombshell, with innocence, strength, and comedic talent to spare, Barbara finally lets Jeannie out of her bottle to tell her whole story.

Jeannie Out of the Bottle takes us behind the scenes of I Dream of Jeannie as well as Barbara’s dozens of other stage, movie, television, and live concert performances. We follow her from the hungry years when she was a struggling studio contract player at 20th Century Fox through difficult weeks trying to survive as a chorus girl at Ciro’s Sunset Strip supper club, from a stint as Johnny Carson’s sidekick on live TV to tangling on-screen and off with some of Hollywood’s most desirable leading men, including Elvis Presley, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, and Warren Beatty. From the ups and downs of her relationship with her Jeannie co-star Larry Hagman to a touching meeting with an exquisite and vulnerable Marilyn Monroe at the twilight of her career, readers join Barbara on a thrilling journey through her five decades in Hollywood.

But Barbara’s story is also an intimate and honest memoir of personal tragedy: a stillborn child with her first husband, Michael Ansara; a verbally abusive, drug-addicted second husband; the loss of her beloved mother; and the accidental heroin-induced death of her adult son, just months before his wedding. With candor and poignancy, Barbara reflects on the challenges she has faced, as well as the joys she has experienced and how she has maintained her humor, optimism, and inimitable Jeannie magic throughout the roller-coaster ride of a truly memorable life.

Illustrated with sixteen pages of photographs, including candid family pictures and rare publicity stills, Jeannie Out of the Bottle is a must-have for every fan, old and new.

Polite,funny and honest.

I wasn not born until 2 years after the last episode of Jeannie was aired. I did however watch the series during the 80. and loved it. For some reason Barbara made a lasting impression on me, so when i read that she had released an autobiography, i bought it immediately. This biography is well written and very honest. She is polite and although Barbara does dish out a little bit she is, with few exeptions, very polite and always has something positive to say about everyone mentioned in the book. She narrates the book herself smiling, laughing and even crying through the pages.

My Favorite Jeannie

This is an autobiography well worth the wait. Barbara has always been one of my favorite actresses and this book does not disappoint! She was always a natural for the field she went into and this book shows that, even down to the personal little giggles and inflections Barbara puts into her own narration. I grew up on Jeannie and enjoyed every episode that aired. The behind-the-scenes look that she gives us into the making of that series only enhances the experience for me, even after all these years. I couldn't think of a better reader for Barbara's book than the lady herself. This was a great listen and worth the credit spent on it.

Light and fun...everybody loves Jeannie

Everybody loves Jeannie and if so, you will enjoy her book also.
This is on a par with Betty White's book which I enjoyed also.
My personal taste runs to more serious and educational books
but in between these I need to take a break and enjoy quicker and
more entertaining reads. Jeannie was fun and enjoyable.

Perfect book by a classy lady

Where does Jeannie Out of the Bottle rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Jeannie Out of the Bottle is one of my favorite audiobooks... I owned the hardcover, but never got around to reading it, but the audio book was a pleasure to listen to on my commute

What was one of the most memorable moments of Jeannie Out of the Bottle?

Lot of great moments in the book, but when Ms Eden started talking bad about Husband #2 Chuck, I was surprised... Normally these books avoid controversy like that and it surprised me (in a good way)

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scenes are when talked about her meetings with Elvis and Marilyn and how lonely they were. And when Ms Eden played Vegas she realized exactly that feeling. But then she had soup with George Burns - which was a great turnaround.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Ms Eden - who doesn't like people to see her cry, started to break down when telling the story of her son's passing. Got a little misty myself..

Any additional comments?

Ms Eden has such a sweet voice and personality, and whenever she was telling a pleasant story, she would chuckle to herself. I loved hearing it because she is a wonderful and classy lady

Classy book, no lurid details

Nicely told story, spoken with true passion of a life lived with much success but an equal amount of tragedy.

Wonderful book.

I loved this book it was really interesting to learn about Barbara Eden's life, her family, and her legacy. I especially like hearing about all the men that flirted with her over the years. Some parts of the book were boring, and other parts were sad, but I would recommend this book to any Jeannie fan!
