Critic Reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Great way to learn a new language

If you want to learn basic Japanese this is a great place to start. I am working on chapter 18 and can't say enough good things about the Pimsleur Programs.

Pimsleur is awesome!

It's great that the words are broken down into syllables and each lesson builds very nicely onto the last. I certainly feel so much more comfortable speaking Japanese now! Nihongo ga wakarimasuka?

Good tool for learning Japanese

I wouldn't rely exclusively on audio to learn a language, but Pimsleur has been very useful. I use this with other texts, and the results are pretty good.

So old-fashioned and sexist on this set of chapters, plus too fast this time around

I really enjoyed the prior Pimsleur Japanese chapters, but for these, in the scenarios the wife is always wanting to shop, and begging the husband for money. Two men visit “Mr Suzuki’s House” but it’s a woman (presumably the wife) who answers the door and serves the guests. Please, it’s 2018!

Also worth noting, these chapters went much faster without proper time to absorb new concepts. In the past chapters, we’d have time to repeat a sentence several times if it included a new concept. This time around, two new things might be introduced at once, and then we moved on to the next thing after only the first repetition. Help! Especially the last two chapters. I had to do them twice.
