Publisher's Summary

Jamie Vardy, the free-scoring talisman behind Leicester City's Premier League champion title, has become a modern against-the-odds footballing hero the world over. Rejected as a teenager by his boyhood club, Sheffield Wednesday, Jamie thought his chances had gone. But from playing pub football and earning £30 a week at Stocksbridge Park Steels while working in a factory, his impressive performances and hard work saw him rise again.

After successful spells at Halifax Town and then Fleetwood Town, he finally moved to championship team Leicester City. They gained their dream promotion to the Premier League, and after surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth came the fairy-tale season where a team arose together, and everything clicked.

Vardy's incredible 22 goals, including setting the record as the first player to score in 11 consecutive Premier League matches, helped Leicester City beat odds of 5,000-1 to become champions. Defying all expectations, it is simply one of the greatest sporting stories of all time.

'Even now there are moments when I shake my head at the madness of it all - going from the factory floor and playing Sunday morning pub football with my mates to scoring for my country against the World Cup winners in Berlin. It's the stuff of dreams. It hasn't always been an easy journey; some doubted that I was capable, and at times I was probably guilty of not helping myself, but nobody can question my passion for football or my commitment once I set foot on the pitch. There is so much that people don't know, and I look forward to sharing all of that and more in what I hope will be an entertaining and inspiring story.' (Jamie Vardy)

Amazing story

Other then the 5000 to 1 and Miracle on Ice this has to be the absolute best sports story ever. Vardy's real life might be even more spectacular then Rocky Balboa. An absolute must read.

Awesome

I started to read the actual book for this a few years back but got really busy with work so I never finished it. It’s been great to be able to listen to it whilst out and about on public transport and also just to chill whilst at home.

EXCELLENT

Everything about this story was exceptional. The narration, the actual story, and the candidness of Jamie Vardy in his writing to leave it all out there. It was something that every soccer fan will enjoy. However, it's also an exceptional underdog story. I'm glad that the real story isn't over yet. I can't wait to see what the decades bring to JamieVardy.

Good but

Surely he should of learnt the names and been told the chants aren't right

Other than that, cracking listen

Great insight

A really great insight into Jamie’s life and career.
As a born and bred Leicester person it was great to hear the story of the team’s rise to premier League champions. The only negative is the narrator mis-pronouncing some of the place names and player names incorrectly !
Would recommend this book.

Four starZ

A good honest account. Usual what goes on tour stays on tour secrets left unrevealed but a honest account and self reflection on what was an amazing period of Vardy's career

Good fun

Really enjoyed the Frank portrayal of a non league footballer going on to breaking records in the Premier league. Funny, witty and a well told story.

great listen about a true legend of Leicester

great listen about a true legend of Leicester City, obviously I am a Leicester City and a Jamie Vardy fan and I would say that.
if I had to criticise anything about the person reading the book, it would be to ask for the right pronunciation of footballers names, street names and maybe a little more effort in to singing the football chants. 😊
That said it was a good listen which flooded back many happy memories over the years.

Narrator

The narrator loses the context of the story sometimes and gets over excited making the story feel cheesy. He also needs to brush up on the pronunciation of footballers names.

Slightly annoying

I found the narrator annoying and childish, not sure if JV intended that :) I even asked my wife midway through if she finds it annoying to listen to. no real secrets or insights, just a basic description of what we already knew. I still like Vardy but not keen on his book

Vardy is a simple guy done well

Very relaxed journey telling to the point were Vardy sounds like he isnt all that fussed about his achievements at times, dont expect any great wisdom but his down to earth character does grow on you.

The Greatest Story Ever Told

The parallels between Jamie Vardy’s life and Leicester City’s rise to premier league winners is uncanny. Relegation and rejection, administration, the rise through the leagues, the importance of the individuals that saved the club and the man. It’s a brilliantly put together sharing of a very special underdog story. Whether or not it brings a tear to your eye or a smile to your face you will be gripped by how a 24 year old factory worker can end up breaking goal scoring records as part of a team that literally achieved the impossible dream.
