Publisher's summary

Jake Anderson killed a man defending his fiancée from a brutal attack, but lost her and his freedom in the process. Now he's on the run, tormented by the need for vengeance.

Becky Finnegan will do anything to escape her drunken father's fists, including slave away at their mine. Her only hope is to strike gold and make a new life for herself somewhere far, far away from Deadwood. But then Jake arrives and does the unthinkable... forces her to feel, to hope... and to love.

Jake would give his life to protect Becky, but all he can offer her is a broken heart, a criminal's life, and a past haunted by failure. How can he save her when he's already lost himself? Will he destroy everything, or can the beautiful rebel redeem Jake's lost soul?

Jake

This is a short book under five hours with a lot of content in it and a good storyline. Jake starts out is accused of killing a girl that he didn't. He runs and ends up in a little town and meets Becky and her father is abusive and he protects her. In the process they fall in love . He has to protect her from her father even after they get married. Lea Frederick does a good job narrating this book. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Grit, Gold and Love!

If you could sum up Jake in three words, what would they be?

Grit, Gold, Love

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the grit of Becky and the way she has to deal with an abusive father and yet wants to just have him love her.

Any additional comments?

Jake is running from the law for something he did not do. Becky is just trying to get her father's acceptance. Throw in a couple of bounty hunters and gold mine properties and the bad guy who got away with the crime that Jake is accused of and you have one wild ride!

Cynthia delivers a gritty, fast-paced western romance! It is a good first installment of the Destiny in Deadwood trilogy. The book was enjoyable to listen to and I enjoyed the fact that the story was about Jake and his whole family along with his love story with Becky. Looking forward to listening to Liam!

I would put this on the spicy side of Historical Western Romances if that is something that concerns you.

This audible was given to me for a fair and honest review.

Great story

I really like this author and enjoy reading her stories, it's well written, a nice romance with passion, betrayal, evil and a little violence, all the things that make the best reads. The best stories are one with feisty heroine that have a delightful attitude with protective hero that make you smile. These men are brothers who know how to take life and shake a fist at it why smiling. They are hard working, have a little attitude them selves, they know how to love and show it. I fell in love with this family, they are delightful characters, this is well written giving you a highly entertaining story.

The narrator was good, no repeating of work, no background noise, wonderful character voices, true emotions, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. A nice pleasant normal voice, it really was an audio I had trouble putting down.

The Old West At It's Best

I loved this story. It had lots of historical detail and the characters all interacted well. Jake and Becky make a great couple and I look forward to seeing the family unit grow and watch the brothers find their perfect partners too.

Ok western romance

This was an ok story but for some reason chapters 14&15 are skipped. How Jake's name is cleared is left out. Maybe it is covered in the next book in the series.
Also the narrator's accent sounds like she is Reba MacIntyre. Not sure if that was intentional.

Enjoyable story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I enjoyed the audio. The narrator did a great job on the voices. And it had a happy ending.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hannah - the little girl. The narrator made her adorable. She was like fresh air to the story.

Have you listened to any of Lia Frederick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first. But she is very good compared to some of narrators. I would enjoy hearing her again.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Freedom of Love

This is an incredibly wonderful story and emotional also.
I don't want to say anything more about this book because I'm so excited about it that I might give something away.

I highly recommend that you get this incredible Audiobook and listen to it yourself, I'm sure you will agree with me.

The narrator did a fantastic job of reading this Audiobook, she made it come alive! I love narrators who do that.

Just okay ...

I didn't particularly enjoy the book. Neither the story nor the narration were very good. The book was predictable with no character development. It's part of a trilogy series but I don't have plans to read the next 2 installments. The narration was absolutely the worst aspect of the audible experience. This was my first time reading a work by Cynthia Woolf. If I can locate another book that isn't narrated by Lia Frederick, I might give the author a second listen. Otherwise, I'll keep browsing. The book isn't worth a credit. I purchased mine for $1.99 so I'll hang onto it I suppose.
