Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Two brand-new legal thrillers in one book—from the authors of Juror No. 3.

A young lawyer takes on the judge who is destroying her hometown—and ends up behind bars....

In picture-perfect Erva, Alabama, the most serious crimes are misdemeanours. Speeding tickets. Shoplifting. Contempt of court.

Then why is the jail so crowded? And why are so few prisoners released? There's only one place to learn the truth.

Sometimes the best education a lawyer can get is a short stretch of hard time.

Includes bonus story: Power of Attorney

2 good JP stories

I enjoyed both stories. First one was a bit over the top and predictable.

A tad confused

This book is two totally different stories which are not related to each other in any way. Both stories are good but why are they in one recording? There is Jailhouse Lawyer and Power of Attorney, both are fast moving, gripping books and typical of a good James Patterson.

poor representation of women

I found the books a little disappointing, the stories were slow paced and I found the narration a little off putting.
My biggest annoyance was the writing of the main characters in each book, both women have been written to be overly emotional and needy which is a poor reflection on how women really are! The characters are successful lawyers they are not going to be fighting the need to break down every 5 minutes!

Jailhouse Lawyer

What happened? Usually a fan of James Patterson but found this protagonist one of the most annoying in history. Not helped by whiny narration, she is two dimensional and overly dramatic. I really couldn’t like or relate or care about her; it detracted from a potentially interesting plot. Really hard work to get through.

Another great read from one of my favourite authors. Never disappoints.
This one was gripping I listened to it and couldn't stop till I reached the end. Thank you Mr. Patterson and Co authors

This a dreadful book.

This is a dreadful book. most people here seem more concerned with the fact its actually two novellas, but I won't be wasting any time listening to the second, having lost enough of my life struggling through the first.
The writing is crisp enough, I suppose, but the story is rubbish, full of holes, the characters one dimensional and the protagonist a limp lettuce with none of the gumption and fight a good lawyer should have. my first, and last, by this author.

Awful - returning for a refund

I'm not sure how much input James Patterson had into this book but I suspect it was very little.

I've struggled to make it to the 2 hour mark but I just can't bear anymore of the ridiculous main character. She is irrational, emotionally immature and not particularly bright, I can't believe in her as a lawyer and I don't like her or care what happens to her. So I'm going to write this review, delete the book off my device, request a refund and think about billing Penguin books, James Patterson and Nancy Allen for two wasted hours of my life.

Poor quality

The story line in both titles was so poor that any child would have done better. Rescued only by the excellent narrator. Wasted my time and money.

boring, there's so much better

Dreadful story lines, boring, bad endings, no surprises or twists, seriously not good and not worth a credit.

well below par, thin story, predictable outcome.

Found it boring and hard work to stick too, not what I except from this writer.

Loved everything about it

Loved both stories… surprisingly there are two. Highly highly recommend, voiced perfectly and held interest throughout
