Publisher's summary

Three thousand feet above China, it was Jake's turn to jump. He slid his pistol, knife, and ration packets into the pockets of his leather jacket and edged toward the open hatch of the B-25 bomber. He checked the tension on the harness of his parachute, made sure the handle of the ripcord was free, and then began lowering himself out of the hatch and into the darkness.

One of the famous Doolittle Raiders who first attacked Japan after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Jacob DeShazer knew his one-way mission was dangerous. Indeed, it led to his capture as a prisoner of war. Beaten, malnourished, and alone in his cell, Jacob was given a Bible—and far away from home, this American soldier became a Christian.

After the war, Jacob returned to Japan and served his former enemy for thirty years as a missionary. His testimony of forgiveness and reconciliation—of love over hate—inspires a powerful gospel message for our lives today.

Another Awesome Biography of a Christian Hero!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would, and I have! What a motivating and inspiring story of faith! Even when you think things couldn't get worse...God has a plan--hang in there! In his story, you wouldn't think he'd survive the prison camps, but he does and goes on to do wonderful things for the Lord! So, no matter how things may look, remember the Lord isn't finished!

Wonderful story of God’s grace

This is a great story, how God took someone at the most difficult point in their life, and brought them to saving faith in Christ. Then, turn that life into someone who is effectively used to God to serve those who have been his enemies.

I especially love this story!

My father was a POW during WWII. He was in the Bataan Death March and imprisoned in the Philippines, Japan and Korea. It was wonderful to hear that God helped Jacob turn his hate into great love for the Japanese. I have always heard most of my adult life that the call went out for missionaries for Japan after WWII. But, I hadn't heard, until now that there were missionaries that answered the call. Thanks for writing this book.

This is an incredible story of how a WW2 American POW of the Japanese became a born-again Christian, and returned to Japan as a missionary to preach the love of Christ!!

Very Encouraging!

I love the very real perspective of Jake Deshazer and his experience with war and the gospel. I, too, feel a call to ministry in Japan. Everything I heard from this story sounds so real, and I know it is real. That’s why it’s very encouraging to hear. Thank you for this story!

Inspiring

Great writing. But the story itself was so inspiring, I find tears running down my cheeks as I come to the end. I happen to know the current Pastor of the Free Methodist church in Salem, Oregon. I will have to ask him about DeShazer's legacy
