Editorial Reviews

Jack & Harry: No Turning Back, narrated in clear and empathetic tones by Australian David Tredinnick, is a rollicking adventure tale, set in Perth in 1950, about two young well-adjusted boys who are falsely accused of stealing. Blowing their plight out of proportion to the supposed crime at hand, the two impulsively flee town, getting the cash to do so from a wild and well-placed bet, and begin an exciting, difficult, and epic madcap journey across the Great Outback.

A fun coming-of-age story and lively road trip tale.

Publisher's Summary

A great Australian yarn about a bold Australian outback adventure belonging to another time in another world, inspired by a true story. The happy routine life of two Perth boys is shattered one November day in 1950 when they are falsely accused of theft. With fabricated evidence mounting against them they decide to run away from their homes and families to avoid prosecution and pooling their meager pocket money they back the winner of the Melbourne Cup and fund an escape.

Critic Reviews

"David Tredinnick is nothing short of outstanding as the boys travel, meeting a happy-go-lucky Irishman, a soft-spoken priest, an older Aborigine man and his nephew, and many others. Each voice for more than a dozen unique characters sounds perfectly distinct.... t’s an exciting trip for the boys and for listeners, as well, as the two mates discover the true definition of home." A favorite of Dad and the boys

I listened to this to verify it was ok for kids. Often Audible kids books are not appropriate in my opinion. Some good lessons but nothing too deep, just a fun adventure of some young boys. My boys love to listen to this one on road trips. Narrator has a fun Australian accent.

Do Not Miss!

This is an entirely charming and engaging little story about two young boys' coming of age. The story may be simple, but the narration, story, and characters make it a very worthwhile addition to your library. Additionally, it is a wonderful listen that will make you smile and feel good.

A cracking yarn

I read this book and loved the boys own adventure before listening to it, David Tredinnick does a great job of giving all of the characters personalities to life.

A great holiday listen.

The perfect road trip book!

Our family enjoyed this story as we drove from Alice Springs, through Tenant Creek and across into QLD to the coast. Having travelled previously via Adelaide, Port Augusta, Coober Pedy and Yalara, we identified strongly with many of the places the characters in this book had travelled also. We fell in love with Jack and Harry and the other personalities of this story and can’t wait to listen to the next book!
A must listen audiobook for all great Aussie road trips!

Fabulous Australian book

Fantastic work by the narrator bringing this wonderful story to light. I simply loved it and found it hard to drag myself away each time I tuned in. Just brilliant. You wont want to stop at 1 book and move right into number 2. Like the other reviewers these two books would make for wonderful Australian films.
