Publisher's summary

"Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others." - Jonathan Swift (1667-1745)

You are what you have. You are how you look. You are who you know. Our culture endlessly echoes these lies that hold many men and women captive. Your value, our world says, is a matter of sight - clothes, cars, youth, power, and beauty will make you worth something. But you don't have to measure yourself by the world's standards.

You are not what they see. You are who God sees.

In It's Not How You Look, It's What You See, Lisa Bevere exposes the lie. With a candid account of her personal struggles with self-worth and body image, Lisa shows you how the battle for value can be fought and won. If you struggle with understanding your identity or worth, the truths in this book will set you free.

God hasn't asked you to measure up to some ideal man or woman. His plan for your life is uniquely yours. Discover it today!

Darkness of the pursuit of the perfect weight exposed

Lisa did a great job of the explaining how she got sucked in to the lifestyle in college of being obsessed with her weight and looks. She also did a great job explaining how the girls in her sorority we’re not able to maintain that look without extreme measures of exercise, bulimia and or anorexia. I had learned in the past that the most miserable and insecure people in the world were the fashion models. The lies that the enemy feeds us that we have to be a certain weight to be acceptable is nothing more than his lies and idolatry. May this book bring truth to you and expose the lies that you believed of what makes you valuable. Our value does not come from what the scale says. We are more then a number. Lisa I love the fact that you and John raised your sons up to know what God values in a woman and not the world. I also love the way that once you took your focus off your weight (idolatry) and put it on God, God worked everything out with your metabolism without dieting and excessive exercise. God is faithful, thank you for sharing.

Great Insight into Perception and Perspective

Enjoyed the read! Gives good insight into why we think the way we do and how to stop making excuses. Great narrator as well.

mostly fluff

the author spends very little time on how she recovered. it's mostly pre story and scripture. mostly fluff for me. I was hoping for more useful content and details of how I can apply this to my life. I wasn't looking for scripture study. I also didn't care for the reader's extra drama to everything, nor her voice. she sounds desperate and whiny.
