Publisher's summary

A suspenseful, absorbing novel that examines the complexities of friendship, It’s Always the Husband by Michele Campbell will keep listeners guessing right up to its shocking conclusion.

“A riveting tale of love, hate, and murder.” (Us Weekly)

“A page-turning whodunit that will speak to anyone who’s ever had a frenemy.” (Ruth Ware, best-selling author of The Woman in Cabin Ten)

“Fans of Gillian Flynn, meet your next obsession.” (BuzzFeed)

Meet Kate, Aubrey, and Jenny.

They first met as college roommates and soon became inseparable, despite their many differences. Kate was beautiful, wild, wealthy, and damaged. Aubrey came from the wrong side of the tracks, and wanted more than anything to distance herself from her past. Jenny was brilliant, ambitious, and determined to win big at all costs. As an unlikely alliance formed, Kate, Aubrey, and Jenny swore they would always be friends.

Twenty years later, the three women - all married, and deemed successful by any measure - are together again. But one of them is standing at the edge of a bridge…and someone is urging her to jump. How did it come to this? Who is to blame? Is it true that it’s always the husband who commits the worst crimes against his wife - or is someone else behind a sinister plot to tear these three women apart?

Very good!

To start with January LaVoy is one of my favorite narrators.

The story dragged a bit at the beginning - the typical college roommates meet each other for the first time and are very different from each other. They become best friends. One's a big partyer, one's the sensible one, one's the shy and backward one. The rest of the book is their college life together, switching back and forth with their present day life. There's not too much switching as to be annoying. It gets better with more tension and mystery with a big twist at the end. No girls/women being buried in a basement of a serial killer or kids being abducted...just your regular murder (suicide?) mystery and personality clashes. I couldn't stand two of the three girls/women. One's the quiet one who decides to drug and drink her way through school and whines way too much. The other's the poor little rich kid with all the shallowness and selfishness you'd expect. I liked the third one better although even she turns out to be pretty much a pushover. Of course, there are the boys/men who put up with their shenanigans and egg them on.

This isn't a 5+ book and is definitely brain candy but everybody needs to get away from War and Peace occasionally. But I'll try another of Michele Campbell's books. And definitely more books narrated by January LaVoy.

Subtly Thrilling

This story is great! Kind of slow at the beginning but every detail matters. The author set the stage very well! You really know the characters, or so you think! So many Twist and turns and the ending is great!! You’re satisfied and then there’s more!

Loved the twists & character struggles

I really loved this book. Campbell pulled me in from the start, and I enjoyed seeing the story through the eyes of the different characters. Some, okay most, were frustrating, but the book was written in a believable way. I liked where the story went and the struggles of the women. If you're looking for a different type of suspense/mystery, this one is definitely for you.

Youu think you know someone

Second time listening to this and loved it just as much as the first time. I actually forgot who the murderer was the entire time and was pleasantly surprised at the thrilling twist.

So Obvious

I found the characters to be incredibly shallow. The author worked waaaaay too hard to make us believe the guilty parties were weak and unable to crawl out of bed let alone commit a murder. I wanted to smack all of the female characters in the face and scream grow up. Very disappointed.
