Publisher's summary

On a cold night in Australia, two construction workers driving along a deserted mountain road are gunned down inside their vehicle. The killings are fast. Efficient.

An assassination carried out with expert precision. The only witness to the crime is a man resting by the side of the road. Recently retired, he'd flown halfway across the world to escape his demons.

Ex-US black ops operative Jason King.

Quickly spotted, King is targeted by those in the shadows of a small country town, ruthless killers determined to tie up loose ends. They have no knowledge of the violent past they are about to revive....

Not a fan

I am not a fan of this author - poor dialogue. Too far fetched in Kings escapes - too
Predictable. Uses the same words and phrases ad nauseam. Reader does a decent job.

My opinion

Bad Jack Reacher knock off. To much of the story is not believable. Too bad.

Glad it was a free book

As an Aussie I’m shocked I made it all the way through. Those accents were horrendous
Story is okay and I really liked his voice when just speaking normal.
Kinda weak storyline and plot holes but I listen to this style to zone out and enjoy the unbelievable.
Not the best but I’ll continue finding more from the author

There are better versions

A story about a loner, ex-military protagonist taking his skills against the bad guys has better options.

Accents please

I enjoyed the book and I enjoyed the narration, except; please, please, please learn how to do an Australian accent. It’s infuriating to listen to such a truly awful Australian accent.

Really?

Not a very realistic or believable story!
Very slow, and there was no mystery!

Great read and listen..

Alright, there was a minute of cheesiness and a moment where I thought Jason told people too much about himself but overall I thought it was a great story. And I can’t even begin to tell you how many bad guys Jason killed, all while trying to figure out what was happening in this small town, only to find out it had to do with weaponizing anthrax.

This was filled with excitement, and a little bit of romance, and the F-bomb was used 61 times. And there were a couple of real surprises along the way.

As to the narration: Roger Wayne did a great job. His voices were spot on and his emotions when he read were awesome.

Ho hum

Narration is fine, but story is lacking. Hero is supposedly American but the trunk is the boot and the hood is the bonnet. Small things, but I found it annoying. I won't be continuing the series.

An entertaining listen with a few issues

The narrator is good and helps the audiobook. The story feels like a Reacher wanna be with nothing but the clothes on his back. That stretches believability and has already been done, well, so surprised he went this direction. Pace was good, a couple of surprises, which could be anticipated if listening close and thinking logically, but still good plot twists. There are situations that push too far into the unbelievable domain, though that is not uncommon in this genre. Maybe it changes in future books, but the premise of only the clothes on their back is unbelievable and unique and following Reacher it seems can be read as a knock off. It was an easy enough listen for the going to sleep and on an airplane domain, but I hope he establishes a character completely separate from a Reacher wanna be. Given the 3rd book is also free and I’m traveling a lot, I bought the second book to see what he does with it. Benefit is the narrator is a very good listen, I’ve quit on books that I liked the story line but couldn’t stand to listen to the narration.
