Publisher's Summary

Twenty years ago all the evil villains were banished from the kingdom of Auradon and made to live in virtual imprisonment on the Isle of the Lost. The island is surrounded by a magical force field that keeps the villains and their descendants safely locked up and away from the mainland. Life on the island is dark and dreary. It is a dirty, decrepit place left to rot and forgotten by the world.

Maleficent, Mistress of the Dark: Ruler of the Isle. Her subjects don't know how to do anything without their powers, so they fix clothes with safety pins instead of needle and thread; they don't know how to use brooms to sweep if they can't fly them, and their crystal balls are good only as goldfish bowls these days.

Mal: 16-year-old Mal is the most popular and talented student at Dragon Hall; her mother is the great Maleficent, Mistress of Darkness, the most powerful and wicked fairy in the world, and there is nothing Mal desires more in the world than to be just like her mother.

Evie: daughter of the Evil Queen. She has been castle-schooled for years, and this is her first year at Dragon Hall. Evie's lush, dark hair falls from her forehead in a striking widow's peak, and she never leaves home without her crown.

Jay: son of Jafar. Handsome, puckish, sexy, and mischievous, with long, dark hair in a bandanna and a great tan. Jay is a thief, a con man, a handsome, quick-witted boy with charm to spare whose lies are as beautiful and silvery as his eyes.

Carlos: son of Cruella. Jumpy, anxious little kid but with the true skills of a tech prodigy. He's been working feverishly on a project that would connect the Isle of the Lost to the outside world. Deathly afraid of dogs.

omg.....

I loved the story! very well written. the performance on the other hand... lets just say... I felt very uncomfortable listening to this woman. I listened to this book with my child in the car. I felt at any moment she was going to start moaning... it was HORRIBLE... And not something my son should have been exposed to that early.. if you can get past her "orgasmic" voice then all the best to you! don't listen with children or your face will be red... THE WHOLE TIME....

Loved!!!!:)

The book is amazing. It's wonderful that an actress from the following up movie was able to narrate. The narration is a little breathy and slow, but I understand because the story is written for children. Nothing could make this book any better because it's perfect.

The story was OK, but the narration was terrible.

It's obvious that this book was written to set up a TV series, but I knew that from the beginning. My only real complaint is that it was hard to listen to the narrator. She was too breathy and often placed the emphasis on strange parts of a sentence.

Nails on a chalkboard!

The narrator's speech cadence ruins the story by dragging out wooorrrrdddssss. She also puts a lot of affectation in her speech, which I hate. The speakers voice is and extreme example of vocal fry. My 10 year old daughter, who LOVES audiobooks asked me to turn it off because the narrator's voice was so irritating to her that it was impossible to focus on the story.

slow start but ended well!!!

Had a hard time getting into this book, but after a few chapters, it turned out to be a fairly decent read. If your into Disney stories and like it a little twisted, then you should enjoy this book. just remember to push through the slow start!!!
