We all have our personal phobias and white-knuckle moments. The title story of Irrational Fear tells of Davis's mother's fear of snakes and the way she eventually got even with him for making fun of her. (She always came out on top.)

With a charming twang, renowned storyteller Donald Davis delivers two improbable tales from his childhood. In both stories, Davis's mother is the victim of a practical joke but emerges as the victor. In the first tale, she apparently is able to summon (with her forefinger) the forces of the universe to exact retribution on our hapless narrator. In the second, she gets the better of her brother-in-law, who is cornered into buying a lavish present for the women of the family. Davis does not so much weave a tale as spin a web. Kids will be caught before they even know it.

Loved these short stories about Mom. I think they are relatable and just funny. This speaker is a pleasure to listen to. Enjoyed everything about this book including the "down home" country music.

These short tales by Donald Davis will have you nearly rolling in the floor with laughter. Clean stories of growing up in a different time, before seat belts, and when family was valued highly, they are both heartwarming AND hilarious. Hardly any subject is safe from ridicule, including the need to visit grandparents to make sure they aren't dead 😂 since they had no telephone. I hope that audible will add more of Donald Davis' shorts to the Plus Catalog, because they are truly my favorites!
