Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Admiral John "Black Jack" Geary earned his rank after being revived from cryogenic sleep to lead the Alliance to victory against the Syndicate Worlds. But his superiors question his loyalty to the regime. Now in command of the First Fleet, Geary is tasked with exploring the frontier beyond Syndic space, a mission he fears deliberately puts the fleet - and himself - in harm's way.

An encounter with the alien enigmas confirms Geary's fears. Attacked without warning, he orders the fleet to jump star systems - only to enter the crosshairs of another hostile alien armada. Ignoring all of the First Fleet's attempts to communicate peaceful intentions, this system's species sends its ships into battle on suicide runs while it guards the exiting jump point with a fortress of incalculable power.

Now, with a faction of his officers determined to eliminate this new threat at any cost, Geary must figure out how to breach the enemy's defenses so the fleet can reach the jump point without massive casualties - even though the enigmas could be waiting on the other side.

That's How You Make a Second Book Pop!

One of the most complicated things to do in writing is make your second book of a new series just as interesting and involving as the first without being predictable. Jack Campbell (John G. Hemry) pulls this off with a masterstroke in Invincible. Even though this is in reality a continuation of a previous series, Dreadnaught was a best seller and put Hemry in the spotlight for new readers to see. Many have gone back and read the previous series to get caught up, only to find that Dreadnaught was not a fluke. Hemry has been here the entire time writing great sci-fi fiction and doing it with real world physics and war situations. For the war strategist Hemry is a godsend. Here is a writer that not only thinks like a warrior, but also like a politician and can see both signs of the diplomatic coin. So not only are his battles theoretically spot on, but his political wars are just as authentic. Hemry goes the distance in Invincible and proves that war strategy and political strategy don't have to be boring. Fictional though his universe might be Hemry has taken the physical, mental, and philisophical of our reality and melded it seamlessly with his creation. Hemry proves yet again that great Sci-Fi doesn't have to be all futuristic and fiction.

Christian Rummel is back for the second book of this series and just as he did in Dreadnaught, he hits it out of the park. Is there an award I can nominate him for? His reading of the Lost Fleet series was superb, but he has continued to put forward great performances in both books of Beyond The Frontier. Using his words I could visually see the story in my mind's eye, and for that I thank him. He truly knows how to bring a book to life.

I like this series and this is more of the same

The narrator does a great job. The only problem I had with this one was that poor old Jack seems to be growing more naive as the story moves along. But no matter, you have to suspend belief anyway so I can cope with Black Jack losing his mind too.

Incredible story

I have always enjoyed space sagas, from "Ender's Game" to "Armor", the idea of three dimensional tactics have been fascinating to me. This series is becoming an obsession of mine and I hope for more to come.

Incredible! Haha. The voice acting is great!

Voice acting was amazing. Many characters with multiple genders I believe are hard to do. Book was very well written and I was quite impressed. Listened to it non stop.

Keeps on getting better

I highly suggest that anyone who enjoys a good space opera sample this author.
The author is right up there with the best of them snd is improving with every book.
At the very least-keep your eyes on him and his works.

Audible rendition of the book is just as good.
