Located in Ueno Park, which is also known as "Ueno no Mori," the National Museum of Western Art is the only example of Le Corbusier architecture in East Asia. 上野公園は、明治時代に日本で最初に公園に指定された5つのうちの一つ。動物園や美術館、博物館などがあり、日本有数の桜の名所でもあります。
＂上野の森＂とも呼ばれる上野公園に建つ国立西洋美術館は、東アジアで唯一のル・コルビュジエ建築です。
2016年に世界遺産に登録された「ル・コルビュジエの建築作品」の構成資産に含まれています。
美術館の建物は、ル・コルビュジエが基本的な設計を行い、彼のもとで学んだ日本人の弟子たちが完成させました。
国立西洋美術館は、西洋で始まった近代建築運動が、極東の日本にまで到達したことを示す好例です。
