また、いずれの寺も、日本の仏教史に大きな役割を果たしました。特に法隆寺は、仏像彫刻だけでも650体を有する、仏教美術の宝庫としても知られます。
明治時代の俳人、正岡子規が詠んだ「柿くへば鐘が鳴るなり法隆寺」は、日本人なら誰でも知っている俳句の一つです。
